Abstract
In the present study, we apply an automatic moving deflector
(AMD), a bio-inspired control device from feathers of bird wings,to the suction surface of the SD7003 airfoil to investigate its aerodynamic performances. We conduct a large eddy simulation at Re = 60,000 based on the chord length and free stream velocity. The angle of attack is fixed at a post-stall angle of 12 degree. The parameters of AMD are its length and tilting angle with the chord line. The results of the base airfoil without AMD agree well with previous experimental data. The AMD significantly reduces the flow separation and subsequently the drag coefficient and force fluctuations.
