학교 학습과 직업 현장 학습 간의 불연속성에 관한 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 입직기 노동자들이 겪는 부적응과 혼란의 경험을 학습양식의 차이와 충돌이라는 관점에서 바라보고, 이를 학습의 연속성이 단절되는 데에서 오는 갈등으로 파악하고자 하였다. 따라서 삶의 연속성 상에 놓여 있는 학습의 연속성을 파악해내는 것, 그리고 그러한 학습의 연속성이 새로운 학습 상황과 충돌해 나가는 지점을 포착하는 것이 연구의 출발점이었다. 특히 본 연구는 인생의 전반기에 대부분의 사람들이 학교 속에서 학생으로 살아왔다는 점에서 학교 세계와 일터 세계를 대비하는데 중점을 두고 진행되었다. 즉, 학교-일터 간 이행에 있어서, 개인이 오랜 간 경험해온 학교 학습과 새로운 일터 환경에서 요구되는 직업 현장 학습의 간의 차이를 인지하고, 적응, 타협, 대응하는 과정을 드러내는 것이 본 연구의 주요한 목표이다. 그리하여, 학교와 일터 간의 관계에 대한 새로운 관점을 모색하는 데에 그 최종적인 목적이 있다. 구체적인 연구 질문은 다음과 같았다. 1) 학습 맥락의 측면에서 볼 때, 입직기 노동자들이 경험해온 학교와 새롭게 받아들어야 하는 일터는 어떠한 차이가 있는가? 2) 이 가운데 입직기 노동자들이 겪는 학습의 불연속성. 즉 학습의 단절 상황은 입직기의 노동자들에게 어떠한 방식으로 드러나는가? 3) 입직기 노동자들은 이러한 학습의 불연속으로 인한 갈등을 어떠한 방식으로 느끼고, 받아들이고, 혹은 대응하고, 극복하는가? 기존의 학교-일터 이행(school to work transition)연구들이 학습자들이 노동의 세계에 빠르고 효율적으로 흡수 되는 것에 초점을 맞추고 있던 것에 반해, 본 연구는 개인의 삶이라는 구체적인 맥락 속에서, 학교와 일터 간의 이행기에 일어나는 현상을 자세하게 포착하고자 하였다. 즉, 학교와 일터의 세계가 다르다는 점에 주목하는 것을 넘어, 학교에서 일터로 이행이 일어나는 상황에 처한 개인에게 어떠한 일이 일어나는지를 자세하게 밝히는 데에 관심이 있었다. 이를 위해 학교의 세계와 일터의 세계를 대비하였고, 학교-일터 간 변화를 잘 드러낼 수 있는 지점에 있는 5명의 입직기 노동자를 선정하여 연구를 진행하였다. 지난 2-3년간 학생에서 노동자로 신분 전환을 경험한 바 있고, 이러한 과정 속에서 상당한 갈등을 겪은 사람들을 대상으로 2-3차례에 걸친 심층 면접이 진행되었다. 이를 통해 대학교육을 포함한 그 이전의 학습 배경과, 입직기에 있었던 학습과 관련한 사건들, 그리고 입직기 이후 인터뷰 시점까지의 적응에 관한 자료들이 수집되었다. 연구 결과는 학교와 일터라는 두 세계에서 요구되는 학습이 상당히 다르다는 점, 그리고 그 학습 방식을 변화시켜내는 것이 쉽지 않다는 점을 보여준다. 이는 입직기 갈등을 바라보는 한 가지 새로운 시각이 될 수 있다는 점에서 의미를 가진다. 학습과 학습 방식의 차이는 학교와 일터 간의 갈등을 불러오는 주요한 요인 중의 하나이다. 또한 일터의 갈등이 2~3년의 입직기가 지난 후에 상당 부분 완화되었다는 점에 주목하여 볼 때, 이는 단절처럼 보였던 입직기의 갈등이 해소되고 삶의 연속성을 다시금 획득해내는 과정으로 입직기를 바라 볼 수 있게 한다. 즉, 입직기의 갈등은 노동자들의 능력 부족과 같은 문제 상황이기 보다 개인의 삶 속의 성장과 변화의 과정으로 바라봐질 필요가 있다. 입직기는 삶과 경험의 변화 - 학습 방식의 갈등 - 새로운 삶과 학습 방식에의 적응 이라는 과정을 통해 다시금 자신의 삶을 구성해내고, 삶의 연속성을 획득해내는 질적 변화와 성장의 시기이다. 이러한 연구 결과는 개인의 삶 속에서 일어나는 다양한 변화와 그 속에서 일어나는 갈등 상황을 질적 성장의 과정으로 바라볼 수 있는 단초를 제공한다.

This is the research that studies conflicts over differences in learning patterns at work and school, which leads confusion and maladaptation to work place for the newly employed. This study starts from figuring out the learning continuity which lies on the line of our life and finding the conflicting moments of learning patterns in a total new situation. The research especially focuses on contrasting school' and workplace' in that most people live a life as a student at a school in their early life. That is to say, the main objective of this study is to reveal the process of recognizing, adapting and coping with the distinctions between learning at school - which people have already experienced and that at work -which is very new during the transition from school to work. It is the ultimate goal to find out the new perspective of relationship between school and work. While the existing researches focused on the workers into workplace quickly and effectively, this study wanted to understand what is happening throughout the transitional time from school to work in specific context as personal life" in detail. In other words, beyond the recognition of differences from school world and workplace, it was intriguing to describe what happened to a person when the time comes to face the situation from where they were to where they are. To investigate, contrasting the two worlds this research found out the considerable differences of learning patterns that the two worlds required and figured out the difficulties when a person had to change for the different patterns they are asked to have. This might be the new way of looking at the disconnection in school to work transition. Upon investigation, the conflicts had been considerably eased off in first two to three years at work. It means that workers have acquired the life continuity back again after reaching a settlement over difficulties at the workplace which seemed like disconnection in the beginning. This shows that a person is getting able to organize his or her life again and secure the life continuity throughout the sequence, the changes of life and experiences, the conflicts of learning patterns and the final adaptation to new way of living and learning. It is assumed that this process is the qualitative growth in personal life.
