| dc.description | 역자주 : 이 글은 Robert H. Muller씨가 1953년에 "American Association of University Professors Bulletin"에 발표한 "Faculty Rank for Library Staff Members in Medium-sized Universities and Colleges"를 번역한 것이다. 이 논문을 발표한 당시 저자는 Southern Illinois University의 도서관장으로 재직중이었다.
이 글은 지금으로부터 꼭 20년 전에 발표된 것이다. 그러나 이 글에 언급된 미국 대학도서관과 현재의 우리 나라 대학도서관과의 사이에도 너무나 현격한 격차가 있을진대 하물며 오늘날의 미국대학도서관과의 격차에 대 해서는 감히 상상도 못할 정도가 아닐까 생각한다. 현재 서울대학교도서관은 서울대학교 10개년계획의 일환으로 도서관종합화를 진행시키고 있으며 또한 도서관자체내에서도 도서관발전을 위해서 몸부림치고 있다. 저자는 비록 이 글이 20년 전에 발표된 것이지만, 도서관종합화방안을 마련하는데 다소라도 참고가 되었으면 하는 마음에서 이 글을 번역한 것이다. 따라서 이 글을 번역함에 있어 가능한 한 우리나라의 대학도서관실정에 맞도록 번역하였으며, 이 글에서는 「사서」 또는 「사서직」이란 용어롤 의식적으로 피하였음을 부언해둔다. | - |
