dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT
Analysis of the conflict in South Sudan concentrating on the origins and the search for solutions is what constitutes this research. The analysis focuses on examining explanations of the conflict and previous attempts at settlement. Theoretical approaches are introduced in the conflict resolution theories and the analysis of the different conflict resolution approaches in line with the evolution and dynamics of the conflict. The South Sudan conflict traces its roots to the period after independence in 1956 which was followed with tensions between the north that is dominated by Arabs and the south that is dominated by African tribes. Its the longest civil unrest in Africa and has lasted for almost sixty years and has impacted heavily on the social and economic development of not only South Sudan but the neighboring countries in the East African community and the Great lakes region that include Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. The conflict has also led to porous borders between south Sudan and her immediate neighbors such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and the DR Congo. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the impact of conflict on the development of the East African Community between 2005 to 2016 and justify the significance of the stability of South Sudan to the region.
