The talisman in the existing folklore is aimed at treating illness. Eastern Learning, however, adopts the notion of morality within it, and actively appropriates it as a means of new moral discipline. Morality in Eastern Learning requires that human should live by God(Sangje)`s will. In this context, this study has characterized three main types of concept of the talisman(Yongbu) in Eastern learning, especially focusing on the materials published by Sicheongyo. First, only when cultivating morality does the talisman have the appropriate healing effect. Second, the shape of it is strongly associated with its meaning, but the talisman in itself is originally intangible. Third, it is considered to have a greater effect on mental health than on physical one, which is called `mental hygiene.`-
