Seogo(西庫) was one of the archives belonged to Kyujanggak, which was for the books compiled and published in Joseon dynasty. It was established at 1776. At first the book housed at Seogo were arranged according to the four parts classification. And after 1792 a new item, the materials compiled by king(御定類) was added to the classification system. As the number of books at Seogo increased rapidly in the 1790s, there was a lack of space for books at Seogo. So in 1799, some of the books of Seogo were moved to the buildings beside the gate of Uichun(宜春問).
From 1781 to 1890, 105 kinds of books(1,955 sets) were added to Seogo by the order of kings. According to the chronicles such as Ilseongrok(日省錄) and Naegakilryeok(內閣日曆), there were four ways of using books of Seogo; materials for Kyujanggak Gaksin(閣臣)s research, books for bestowing on officials, teaching materials for the kings and crown princes and references of compiling other books.
In Kyujanggakji(奎章閣志) there were two regulations as the ways for management of the books of Seogo. One was examining the condition of books carefully(奉審) and the other was airing books(曝?) for taking moisture out of the books. But the articles of examining and airing the books of Seogo were rare in the chronicles. I guess it shows two possibilities. First, many cases of examining and airing books were not recorded in the chronicles. Second, the status of Bongmodang(奉謨堂) or Juhaplu(宙合樓), which were archives for the materials of kings and royal family were higher than that of Seogo. So there was a possibility that the book management of Kyujanggak was focused on Bongmodang and Juhaplu, while the concern over the management of Seogo was relatively low and examining and airing the books of Seogo were not carried out regularly according to the rules.
