지속가능성을 넘어서(Transustainability): 지속가능한 디자인과 동양사고의 접목

Abstract

지속 가능한 디자인에 대한 논의는 보편적 이론 혹은 지속가능성의 개념에 대한 합의점 보다는 개별 디자인 전략의 수립 및 다양한 컨텍스트에서의 실제적 채택에 더욱 초점을 맞추어야 한다. 이는 중국에서 현재 쟁점이 되고 있는 문화적 차별화에 대한 핵심적 논의를 수반하여야 하는 바, 본 논문은 서구 및 중국에서의 지속가능성 개념에 대해 고찰하고, 디자인 사고를 배양하는 유기적 시스템으로서의 중국의 순환관, 그리고 문화에 기반한 디자인 전략의 개념 및 본 개념이 지속가능성을 넘어선 (transustainability) 이행에 어떻게 기여할 수 있을지를 논의한다. The discussion of sustainable design should be less about forming a consensus on a universal theory or conception of sustainability than the development of a particular design strategy and its actual adoption in various contexts. This involves an essential debate about cultural differentialtion, which is a controversial issue in China. Hence, this paper considers the notion of sustainability in the West and China, elucidating the chinese belief in revolution as a nurturing organic system of design thinking, and discusses the idea of culturally-based design strategy and how it can help in the transition to transustainability.
