전상직의 가곡에 나타나는 시의 음악적 표현에 관한 고찰

Abstract

시는 작가가 말하고자 하는 의미론적 측면인 내용뿐만 아니라 이를 드러내는 방법까지 포괄하므로 그 내용과 구조는 불가분의 관계에 놓여있다 할 수 있다. 따라서 작곡가는 예술가곡을 작곡함에 있어 시의 주제, 제재(題材), 시어 등 시의 내용적 측면과 아울러 구조적 측면까지 고려해야 한다.

시를 노래한다는 점에서 시의 구조와 가곡의 음악적 구조는 일반적으로 일치하며 이를 통해 시의 의미론적 내용과 정취를 보다 선명하게 감상자에게 전달할 수 있다. 따라서 가곡이 서정적인 선율과 시의 정취 표현에 그치지 않고 시에 대한 구조적 이해를 바탕으로 작곡되었을 때 비로소 시와 음악이 온전히 결합한 예술가곡으로서의 의미가 있게 된다.

전상직은 가곡에 내재하는 음악적 구조, 즉 시어 및 시구와 동기적·선율적 상호관계를 일치시킴으로써 음악적 개연성을 부여한다. 맥락상 같은 역할을 하는 시어를 한눈에 파악할 수 있도록 문장 간 대응 시어끼리 다양한 음악적 요소를 일치시킴으로써 곡에 통일성을 부여함과 동시에 청자가 시의 흐름을 잘 파악할 수 있게 한다. 이렇듯 시의 구조와 음악의 구조가 일치함으로써 그의 가곡은 시의 의미론적 내용과 정취를 동시에 감상자에게 전달할 수 있게 된다.

본 논문은 전상직의 다섯 개의 가곡을 통해 여러 가곡 작곡 방식 중 시의 해석에 중점을 둔 하나의 방법론을 고찰하여 이로써 얻어지는 다양한 결과물에 대해 논한다.

A Study on the Musical Expression of Poetry in the Art Song of Sangjick JUN

The poem is composed not only what the poet wants to say in terms of semantics, but also how it is revealed, so the content and structure are inseparable. Therefore, the composition of Art songs requires the interpretation of the composer, ranging from the content of the poem to the structural aspects, such as the theme, topic(material), poetic diction.

In terms of singing poetry, the structure of poem and the musical structure of the song are generally consistent. By matching the structure of the poem with the structure of the music(art song), the semantic content and atmosphere of the poem can be delivered more clearly to the listener. When the Art song is composed based on a structural understanding of the poem, as well as a lyrical melody and expression of the atmosphere, it becomes meaningful as an Art song that combines poetry and music.

Sangjick Jun, the composer, gives musical possibility by matching the musical structure inherent in the song, namely the synchronic and melodic interrelationships with the poetic diction and verses. In order to identify the same words in the context at a glance, the corresponding words between sentences match various musical elements(parameters), giving the song unity and allowing the listener to grasp the flow of the poem well. In this way, listeners can simultaneously grasp the semantic content and mood of poetry through the Art song.

This paper discusses the various results obtained by methodology that focuses on the interpretation of poetry among multiple Art song composition methods through five songs of Sangjick Jun.
