Abstract
This article is intended to examine Kim Won-il's novel The Long Way to the Place
(1992.6), which deals with the victims of the Korean atomic bomb. Kim Won-il, who
witnessed the reality that the nuclear issue is being discussed in connection with the
survival of the entire nation, found the present state of division in the atomic bomb
victim. When President Roh Tae-woo visited to Japan in May 1990, the Japanese
government promised 4 billion yen in the name of medical aid to Korean atomic bomb
victims. The support was an event that greatly improved the conditions of the exposed
Koreans despite the limitations that it was not an official apology and not a title of
recompense. Then, what kind of atomic bomb issue did Kim Won-il want to raise
against the backdrop of the time after such an agreement was reached and the first
installment was deposited? In this context, the article wanted to reveal what Kim Won-il
organized The Long Way to the Place with what and strategies to socialize and
remember the atomic bomb issue.
