Abstract
© 2021 American Chemical Society. All rights reserved. In situ growth of catalysts has great advantages compared with the conventional powder-type catalysts, which require extra casting procedures with polymeric binders. Here, fabrication of an electrode with a binder-free electrocatalyst is presented, inspired by an already commercialized chemical engineering process, phosphating, which has been widely utilized in the surface treatment industry. The CoMnPi is formed on a conductive substrate using Co2+-modified phosphating. The CoMnPi is converted into layered-type, amorphous CoMnPOxHy by electrochemical activation, which is active toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Our phosphating-based method greatly simplifies the preparation procedure of electrodes for water electrolyzers, possibly resulting in wide utilization of H2.
