The study assessed the opportunities and challenges of women participation in the parliament of Ghana based upon the adoption of affirmative action. The specific objectives seek to identify the opportunities and challenges of women in the parliament of Ghana. The qualitative study has been adopted and the interview guide was used to obtain the information needed to meet the objectives from some selected politicians who serve in the central government of Ghana. The findings of the study revealed that, the affirmative action is yet to be finalized in Ghana despite the recognition of other international requirements towards women participation in active leadership position including the Beijing platform for Action (BPfA), the human and peoples right and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). It was also found that women participation in parliament brings an opportunity, especially to women and children and benefit in many other policies including sanitation and safety precautions. The respondents have indicated several forms of discrimination among women including the unwillingness to support their political agenda and the Ghanaian culture which fails to recognize their involvement in decision making positions. The study recommends that the government of Ghana and other policy makers should formulate policies that will encourage women participation in leadership positions and to discourage discrimination among women.-
dc.description.abstract여성의 가나 의회 참여의 한계와 기회에 대한 평가
