한국 성소수자의 SNS 커뮤니티 분석 - 한국 젊은층 남성 성소수자의 트위터 커뮤니티를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 젊은층 한국 남성 성소수자들이 트위터에서 커뮤니티 구성원이 자신의 성정체성을 자유롭게 표현하고 탐구할 수 있는 하나의 안전한 공간이자 온라인 커뮤니티를 형성하고 유지하는 것에 대한 민족지 질적 연구를 제공한다. 본 연구에서는 대부분 한국 남성 성소수자로 구성된 커뮤니티 구성원들의 남성 성소수자 혹은 앨라이로서의 정체성이 온라인 커뮤니티를 형성한다는 것을 발견했다. 이러한 커뮤니티 구성원들 간에서 공유된 정체성은 커뮤니티의 참여 자격이 되고, 한국 남성 성소수자들은 트위터의 마이크로블로깅 기능 및 특성을 활용하여 다른 한국 남성 성소수자들을 커뮤니티 안으로 수용하며, 남성 성소수자 커뮤니티 구성원에게 아웃팅의 위험성을 초래하는 사람을 배제한다. 이의 결과로 커뮤니티 구성원들이 자신의 성정체성에 대해 편하게 이야기하고, 표현하며, 탐구할 수 있는 남성 성소수자에게 안전한 온라인 공간이 형성된다.

This thesis offers an ethnographic study examining how young Korean male gender and sexual minorities have created an online community and safe space on Twitter where community members can freely express and explore their sexual identity. This research finds that community members - comprised mainly of gay male population - forms an online community by allowing only gay males or allies to participate in the community by utilising Twitters microblogging features. In this process, Korean male gender and sexual minorities are accepted into the community, whilst those who pose the risk of outing community members are excluded. As a result, they form a social network that enables community members to freely talk about, express, and explore their sexual identity in an online safe space.
