글과 그림의 조합을 통한 일상에 관한 풍자적 표현 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 일상에 관한 풍자적 이야기를 담은 판화 모음집을 제작하는 과정을 다룬다. 연구는 글과 그림을 함께 배치한 작품에서 그 둘의 관계가 어떠한지 파악해 보기 위한 목적으로 시작되었다. 연구 기간 이전에 나는 이야기가 담긴 작품을 제작했는데, 이때 이야기를 그림에 직접적으로 글로 작성해서 드러내지는 않았다. 나는 이야기와 그림의 관계를 실험해 보기 위해, 우선 이야기를 글로 작성해서 그림과 함께 배치한 작품을 제작하겠다는 설정을 세우고 이 연구를 시작했다. 나에게 있어서 글과 그림을 함께 배치한 작품은 대체로 책이었는데, 이 점에서 나는 판화 매체를 사용해서 글, 그림을 모두 인쇄하겠다는 두 번째 설정을 세웠다. 이 설정을 바탕으로 글과 그림을 한 장의 종이에 판화 매체를 사용해 조합하는 모음집을 만들고, 이를 바탕으로 나의 글과 그림의 관계를 정립하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 삼는다. 연구의 단계는 우선 연구 대상이 되는, 연구 기간 이전 또는 도중에 쓴 글과 그린 그림을 모아 분류하는 것으로 시작한다. 그중 글의 내용을 먼저 분석한다. 그리고 글과 주제가 일치하는 그림을 찾아 글과 함께 묶음으로 만든다. 이후 글과 그림을 다시 판화 매체를 이용해 쓰거나 그리는 제판 행위를 하고, 글과 그림 판을 한 장의 종이에 함께 또는 따로 인쇄하면서 모음집의 형태로 이야기를 전달하는 방법을 연구한다. 이렇게 묶이는 나의 판화 모음집은 처음부터 의도를 가지고 제작한 것이 아니라 모음집의 형태로 만들면서 주제를 도출한 것이다. 연구의 결과로 여섯 개의 판화 모음집이 나왔다. 판화 모음집을 만드는 과정에서 나의 글이 일상 속에서 내가 발견한 문제들에 관한 풍자적 이야기임을 알 수 있었다. 전반적인 주제가 도출된 후, 이야기의 특징을 분석하는 연구는 다시 허구적 대리인을 통한 이야기와 자전적 이야기로 분리했다. 이와 같은 이야기를 토대로 그린 그림은 머릿속에서 이야기를 구상하면서 즉흥적으로 뱉어낸 그림이라고 할 수 있었다. 따라서 판화 기법을 사용해 모음집을 만드는 연구는 날 것 상태의 드로잉의 특징을 유지하면서 복수로 작품을 만드는 연구로 이어졌다. 나는 특히 이야기에서 생겨난 그림이 선을 많이 활용했다는 점에 주목해, 판화 기법마다 구사할 수 있는 특유의 선 느낌을 연구했고 이를 이야기의 특징과 결부시켜 모음집마다 차이를 둔 표현 방식을 사용했다. 모음집을 제작하는 것에는 글씨체에 대한 연구와 제본에 관한 연구, 글과 그림을 배치하는 방식의 연구도 포함된다. 연구를 통해 정립된 판화 모음집 만들기 과정은 앞으로도 이어질 나의 이야기와 거기서 생겨나는 그림을 담아낼 수 있는 하나의 틀이 되었다.

This study deals with the process of producing a printmaking portfolios containing satirical stories about everyday life. The study began with the purpose of figuring out the relationship between the writing and drawing when they are placed together. Before the research period, I made works with a story, but at this time, I did not reveal the story directly in writing on the picture. In order to experiment with the relationship between stories and pictures, I started this study with the idea that I would first create a work in which a story was written and placed alongside pictures. For me, most of the works in which words and pictures are placed together are books, and in this respect, I set up the second setting to print both words and pictures using printmaking technique. Based on these settings, the purpose of the study is to create portfolios that combines writing and drawings on a single sheet of paper using printmaking technique, and to establish the relationship between my writing and drawing. The stage of the study begins with collecting and classifying the writings and drawings written before or during the study period, which are the subject of the study. Among them, the content of the writing is analyzed first. And find pictures that match the subject of writing and group them together. Afterwards, I rewrite and redraw them using printmaking technique, and study a method of conveying a story in the form of portfolio by printing the words and pictures together or separately on a single sheet of paper. Thus, my printmaking portfolios were not made intentionally from the beginning, but the theme was derived while making it. The research resulted in six portfolios. In the process of making the print collection, I found that my writing were satirical stories about the problems I found in everyday life. After the overall theme was drawn, the study of analyzing the characteristics of the story was again separated into a story through a fictional agent and an autobiographical story. The drawings based on these stories could be said to be done as they were sprung up spontaneously while conceiving the story in the head. Therefore, the study of printmaking technique led to a study of creating multiple works while maintaining the characteristics of raw drawings. In particular, I paid attention to the fact that the drawings that came out of the story used a lot of lines, and I studied the unique texture of lines that can be found in each printmaking technique, and used them as a different expression method for each collection by linking it with the characteristics of the story. Making portfolios also includes research on calligraphy and binding, and on the way words and pictures are arranged. The process of creating a printmaking portfolios established through this research has become a framework for containing my stories and drawings that emerge from it.
