비 서사적 반복 행위에 관한 작품 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2017년부터 2022년까지 6년간 마주한 현대인의 일상 속 반복행위를 탐구한 일련의 작업을 분석하고 있다. 반복성은 일종의 기원이나 구원을 위한 의식처럼 현대인의 삶 속에 짙게 깔려 있다. 나는 이러한 반복성의 특성 그 자체에 현대인을 이해할 실마리가 있다고 생각했다. 그리고 행위를 구성하는 요소로서 서사성과 사물, 그리고 현대인을 바라보는 나의 양가적인 감정을 작품 속에 아우르고자 하였다.

행위를 탐구하는 과정에서는 대상의 서사보다는 목적 없는 움직임 그 자체의 시각적 형상에 집중하였다. 이를 위해 드러나지 않는 서사와 드러나는 사물이라는 양면적인 방식으로 움직임을 연출해 봄으로써 반복 행위의 특성을 다양한 측면에서 드러낼 수 있었다. 반복성을 일으키는 매개체로써 작동되는 사물은 비 서사적 행위를 선명하게 보여주는 역할을 한다. 반복적 행위를 비 서사와 사물의 관점에서 해체해 본 후에도 해소되지 않는 의문은 양가적 감정 그 자체로서 작업에 적용하였다.

This paper examines a series of works that explores repetitive actions witnessed in daily life from 2017 to 2022. Repetition is deeply rooted in the lives of modern people, similar to a prayer or ritual for salvation. I consider the nature of repetition itself as a clue to understanding modern people. In addition, I aim to incorporate narrativity and object as well as my ambivalent feelings toward modern people as elements composing action in my work.

In investigating action, I focused on the visual form of aimless movements instead of the object's narrative. By staging movements that expose the object but not its narrative, I was able to reveal the nature of repetitive action in different aspects. Objects that operate as a medium causing repetition plays a role in clearly showing non-narrative actions. Questions that remained unresolved, even after disassembling repetitive action in the aspect of non-narrative and object, were included in the work as ambivalent feelings themselves.
