19세기 자연주의 디자인 양식을 활용한 일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

In 2020, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the world's order and brought serious disasters to human society, and even after nearly three years, things have not completely subsided and are becoming routine. There may be many causes of occurrence, but what cannot be denied is that constant industrial development and urbanization in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution had a serious impact on the ecosystem. In the upcoming post-pandemic era, it is important to have a view of natural philosophy and re-examine the relationship between modernity and nature. The term "naturalism" derived from the word nature has a long history and has become complex and diverse in meaning as it has been used in various fields such as philosophy, art, and science. The first application of naturalism to the field of design was an important theme and style among the Arts and Crafts Movement and Art Nouveau, which began in the mid-19th century. At that time, the design style used an advanced programming design method, abstracting natural elements into design by combining organic lines and metal materials. Over time, the naturalistic style and expression left behind are still organically combined with modern life. What cannot be left out when referring to Eastern nature is the "Sanhaegyeong (Classic of Mountains and Rivers)" (hereinafter collectively referred to as "Sanhaegyeong"), a literary ancient conservation with the mystery of nature. It can be seen that the mountain scenery contains ancient natural heritage and humanities customs of East Asia. Originally, paintings existed in Sanhaegyeong, but paintings were practiced over the years. Today, there are many literary and artistic works reinterpreted based on the mountain scenery, but there are still many problems, such as not exceeding the concept of native culture, being consistent, or being difficult to create and internationalize from a new perspective. In order to improve the problems that exist when reinterpreting the mountain scenery above, the idea of utilizing the naturalist design style of the 19th century was derived. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is as follows. First, it aims to show unprecedented globality and symbolism through a reinterpretation method in conjunction with the theme of "coexistence of animals and people centered on plants," which expressed hundreds of ancient natural objects recorded in the mountain landscape in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. Second, the mountain scenery aims to give new vitality and vitality to old naturalist expression techniques with new content. Finally, through the reinterpretation of the mountain scenery, we would like to open up visual design possibilities so that you can feel the taste of ancient naturalist aesthetics in this world filled with modernist electronic art through the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Research methods mainly employ survey method, data study, cross-subject study, case study, and comparative method. In the early stages of investigation, historical data on "natural, natural, naturalism, and design" are systematically collected through investigation, and the collected data are analyzed, synthesized, compared, and supervised to learn "what is the 19th-century naturalism style." Next, we will investigate the "current status and problems of reinterpretation of the mountain scenery" using the above research method. Finally, we will conduct work research as a comparative research method. To summarize the conclusion of this paper, first, in terms of the design description of Sanhaegyeong, unlike previous works, this work is not designed in the order of text, but is combined into a similar or symbolic illustration pattern from the perspective of "the efficacy of animals and plants." Second, the mountain scenery records many natural objects, but there is a tendency to use the image as a mythological game character before. However, I can describe my mysterious animals and plants, and at the same time, I can express them in a friendly and honest way in a naturalistic style. Naturalism emphasizes the expression of texture and the preservation of traditional folk crafts. It is also innovative in how it is used and in the medium of propagation medium. Previous works mainly appeared in the form of books or paintings, but my work, "Sanhaegan(Between mountains and seas)", illustrated works, can be used as interior or fashion items with beautiful symbolism and good meaning, and the methods of use are more diverse than before, introducing a classical atmosphere into modern life.

2020년에 코로나19 전염병 발생으로 인해 세계의 질서를 어지럽히고 인류사회에 심각한 재난을 가져오며 현재까지 거의 3년이 지나도 사태가 완전히 가라앉지 않고 일상화되고 있다. 발생 원인은 여러 가지 있겠지만, 부인할 수 없는 것은 4차 산업혁명 시대에 끊임없는 공업 발전과 도시화 진행은 생태계에 심각한 영향을 미쳤다. 다가오는 포스트 팬데믹(post- pandemic) 시대에 자연철학관을 가지고 현대성과 자연의 관계를 재조명하는 것이 중요하다. 자연이라는 단어에서 파생된 "자연주의" 용어는 오랜 역사를 지니고 철학, 예술, 과학 등 다양한 분야에서 사용되면서 의미가 복잡하고 다양해졌다. 자연주의가 디자인 분야에 처음 적용된 것은 19세기 중반 시작한 미술공예 운동(Arts and Crafts Movement)과 아르 누보(Art Nouveau) 중 중요한 주제와 스타일이다. 그 때의 디자인 양식은 자연적 요소들을 유기적인 선과 금속 소재를 결합해 디자인에 적용한 것으로 추상화하면서 고도 프로그래밍의 디자인 방법을 이용했다. 시간이 흐르지만, 그 남겨진 자연주의적인 스타일과 표현 방식은 여전히 현대 생활과 유기적으로 결합하고 있다. 동양의 자연을 언급하면 빼놓을 수 없는 것은 자연의 신비성을 지닌 문학적 고대 보전인 《산해경(山海经)》(이하 산해경으로 통칭)이다. 산해경은 동아시아의 고대 자연유산, 인문 풍습을 담고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 산해경은 원래 그림이 존재했지만, 오랜 세월을 걸쳐 그림이 실전되었다. 오늘날 산해경을 소재로 재해석된 문학예술 작품들이 많지만, 여전히 고유문화 관념을 넘지 못하고, 일치화되거나, 새로운 시각으로 창조 및 국제화하기 힘든 점 등 여러 문제점이 남아 있다. 상기 산해경을 재해석했을 때 존재하는 문제점을 개선하기 위해서 19세기 자연주의 디자인 양식을 활용하는 아이디어를 도출했다. 그러므로 본 논문의 목적은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산해경에 기록된 수백 수천 종의 고대 자연물을 서양 19세기 중반~20세기 초기의 자연주의 기법에 표현했던 주제인 식물 위주로 동물과 사람 공존'과 맞물려, 재해석 방식을 통해 전에 없던 글로벌함과 상징성을 보여주고자 한다. 둘째, 산해경은 새로운 내용으로 오래된 자연주의 표현 기법에 새로운 생기 및 활력을 주고자 한다. 마지막으로, 산해경의 재해석을 통해 4차 산업혁명으로 모더니즘 전자예술로 가득 찬 이 세계에 고대 자연주의 미학의 맛을 느낄 수 있게 시각적 디자인적 가능성을 열고자 한다. 연구방법은 주로 조사법(Survey method), 문헌 연구법(Data study), 학제 간 연구법(Cross-subject Study), 사례 연구(Case study), 비교 연구법(comparative method)을 채택한다. 초기 조사 단계에 조사법을 통해 "자연, 자연적, 자연주의와 디자인" 등에 관한 역사적 자료를 체계적으로 수집하고, 수집한 자료를 분석, 종합, 비교, 총괄하여 초기 조사를 통해서 19세기 자연주의 양식은 무엇인지를 알게 된다. 그다음에는 상기 연구 방법으로 산해경 재해석 현황 및 문제점을 조사할 것이다. 마지막으로 비교 연구법으로 작품연구를 진행할 것이다. 본 논문의 결론 부분을 요약하면 첫째, 이번 연구를 통해서 산해경의 디자인 서술 면에서 이 작품은 이전 작품들과 달리 대부분 텍스트 순서에 따라 디자인하는 것이 아니라, "동식물의 효능"이라는 관점으로 출발해 비슷하거나 상징성이 높은 일러스트 패턴으로 결합시킨다. 둘째, 산해경은 많은 자연물을 기록하고 있지만, 이전에 그 이미지를 신화 게임 캐릭터 방식으로 하는 경향이 많다. 그러나 저의 신비한 동식물들을 묘사하고 있는 동시에 자연주의 스타일로 친근하고 솔직하게 나타낼 수 있다. 자연주의는 질감의 표현과 전통 민속 공예의 보존을 강조한다. 또한, 사용 방법과 전파 매체에서도 혁신적이다. 이전 작품들은 주로 책이나 그림 형태로 나타났지만, 저의 작품인 <산해간(山海间)>일러스트 작품은 아름다운 상징성과 좋은 의미를 담은 속성을 가지고 인테리어 혹은 패션 아이템으로 활용될 수 있으며, 사용 방법도 이전보다 다양해져 고전적인 분위기를 현대 삶에 도입한다.
