포스트휴먼 사회의 동물권 ― 인간, 동물, 인공지능의 생명 존재론

Abstract

포스트휴면 사회는 전통적인 기술, 문화 인간 관념에 대한 비판적 재검토를 요청한다. 이는 사회의 미래와 생명계 전체를 향한 지구 건강의 관점이 야기하는 상상력과 추동력에 기인한다. 로봇, 인공지능과 같은 비인간의 지위에서부터 인간과 긴밀한 관계를 맺고 있는 동물에 이르기까지 사물과 생명에 관한 지위와 권리의 모색은 인간 너머의 세계를 준비하는 포스트휴먼 시대의 중요한 과제로 부각된다. 포스트휴머니즘은 사물, 로봇, 인간, 동물, 자연, 지구의 권리와 그 권리의 깊은 연결을 중요하게 탐색한다. 이 연구는 포스트휴먼 사회의 중요한 화두인 사물, 인간, 동물의 관계를 중요한 출발점으로 삼는다. 특히 이 연구는 지구의 핵심 주체로서 동물에게 고유한 가치를 부여하는 동물권 탐색을 주요 과제로 삼는다. 동물에 대한 관심은 동물의 지위에 대한 발견과 의미 부여를 뜻한다. 더 나아가 인간과 함께 하는 지구의 공동 구성원으로서 동물의 권리에 대한 탐색과 연결된다. 이 연구는 첫째, 사물, 인간, 동물의 관계를 지구 건강의 관점에서 조명한다(Ⅱ). 둘째, 비인간의 지위, 특히 비인간에 어떠한 권리 부여가 가능한지를 암중모색하면서 로봇권과 동물권의 관계를 다룬다(Ⅲ). 셋째, 사물, 인간, 동물의 관계를 이성과 감정의 관점에서 재구성한다(Ⅳ). 넷째, 사물과 동물의 권리 모색을 고통(suffering)과 통증(pain)의 관점에서 조명한다(Ⅴ). 다섯째, 코로나19 이후 새롭게 전개되는 새로운 생명의 존재론과 생명의 정치철학의 가능성을 탐색한다(Ⅵ). 마지막으로 새로운 생명 존재론 구성을 위한 제안을 결론으로 제시한다(Ⅶ).

The emergence of the posthuman society requires a reconsideration of a traditional understanding of technology, culture, and personhood. It invites new ways of looking at the whole world in light of the wellbeing of the entire planet earth. It encourages imaginative thinking outside the box about how robots and non-human entities (AI) are connected to human and animal life. It urges the human community to search for new ways to engage non-human beings, respecting their rights. Posthumanism is a study about how objects, robots, nature and everything on the earth relate to human species and their lives. Posthumanism focuses on relationality. This article examines this relationship of humans with animals as it advocates for animals innate dignity and worth. To see animals in their own right means that humans must recognize their status, appreciate how they are valuable partners in society and view them as significant members of the earth family. First, this article illuminates the inter-relationship between objects, humans, and animals from perspectives of the wellbeing of the earth. Secondly, it examines a particular relationship between animal rights and robot rights by asking how (if any) their rights can be acknowledged. Thirdly, it reconstructs a relationship between objects, humans, and animals from rational and emotional points of view. Fourthly, it probes how the suffering and pain of objects and animal rights might be recognized. Fifthly, it attempts to show how the political philosophy of life ensures the sacredness of life and how the COVID-19 pandemic provides us with an illustration of this. Finally, the article proposes a new way to view and understand life.
