전략촌 대마리의 형성과 향군촌 정체성의 변화 : 평화함축적 상징의 수용을 중심으로

Abstract

이 글은 접경지역 최초의 전략촌인 대마리의 조성과정에서 형성된 공동체적 경험이이후의 사회변화에 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지, 2세대 주민들이 향군촌과는 다른 평화함축적상징들을 어떻게 마을 정체성의 일부로 수용할 수 있었는지를 살펴보는 사회사적 연구이다. 한국 정부의 전략촌 설립구상에 의해 조성된 대마리의 주민들은 개척 과정에서 발생한 지뢰피해와 토지소유권 분쟁의 상흔을 안고 있었지만, 자신들의 고난 극복의 역사를기록하고 싶어 했으며, 그것을 개척비로 표현하였다. 대마리 주민들은 2000년부터 자신들의 안보지향적 정체성을 뛰어 넘어 생태문화마을로서의 지향을 드러냈고, 나아가 탈냉전적 상징들을 마을의 정체성으로 흡수하였다. 이것은 리더십의 세대교체로 인해 가능했다. 2세대 주민들은 공동체적 전통을 계승하면서도, 실용적 발전주의의 맥락에서 철원의 자연, 역사적 유산, 문학적 자원들을 적극적으로활용하려는 의지를 보여주었다. 이러한 평화함축적 상징에는 두루미, 노동당사, 상허 이태준 등이 포함된다.

This paper provides a social-historical study of the first strategic village in DMZ border area, Daemari. Main Questions are the influence of their communal experiences during rebuilding process on the later social cooperation, and the acceptance of peace-implying symbols in this veterans village as a part of its identity. Though residents have not fully recovered from the scars of mine accidents that occurred amid reclamation process and of land ownership conflicts, they were eager to inscribe the trajectory of communal hardships into the reclamation monument. After 2000, Daemari residents started to express the orientation toward a new eco-cultural-village, and incorporated some peace-implying images beyond their early Cold War identity. This change was possible due to the second generation leadership that well inherited the communal tradition and sought to utilize local resources including ecological, historical, and cultural items in the context of pragmatic developmentalism. Such symbolic images include crane, local labour party headquarters, and Lee Tae-Joon.
