종교 지도자와 신도의 상호 관계에 대한 종교심리학적 해석 : 한국의 신종교 연구 사례를 중심으로

Abstract

이 논문은 한국 신종교 지형의 종교 지도자와 신도 관계에 다룬 연구들을 분석하는 메타 연구이다. 논문은 세 가지 연구 사례를 주로 다루었다. 첫째, 동학을 창시한 수운 최제우의 종교 체험을 심리학적 관점에서 분석한 연구이다. 둘째, 한국 신종교 여성 종교 지도자의 리더십을 카리스마 개념에 근거해 분석한 연구들이다. 셋째, 종교 중독 개념을 포함해 신학계가 주축이 되어 수행한 연구들이다. 한국 신종교의 종교 지도자와 신도에 관한 연구는 신학, 종교학, 정신 의학의 관점에서 다양하게 이루어져 왔다. 연구 수행의 주체와 목적, 연구 대상, 그리고 연구 접근 방법에서 다채로운 스펙트럼을 드러냈던 것이다. 그간의 연구들은 신종교를 포함해, 기존 종교 내부에서 새롭게 등장한 움직임까지 포괄했다. 그리고 그 과정에서 인간의 종교성과 종교의 제도화 과정을 통찰하도록 만들고, 바람직한 종교 생활을 위한 현실적 처방을 제시하기도 했다. 종교가 끊임없이 역동적으로 변화하는 한국적 상황에서 종교 지도자와 신도의 관계를 심리학적 관점에서 이해하려는 노력은 더욱 중요해지리라 여겨진다.

This paper is a meta-analysis that analyzes researches on religious leaders-followers relationships in Korean New Religions. The paper deals mainly with three case studies. First, the study analyzing the religious experience of Suun Choi(崔水雲), who founded Donghak(東學), from a psychological point of view. Second, the study analyzing the leadership of Korean female religious leaders based on the concept of charisma. Third, the theological studies on religious leaders-followers relationships including the concept of 'religious addiction'. Studies on religious leaders-followers relationship of Korean New Religions have been diversified in terms of theology, religion, and psychiatry. The spectrum was wide in the subject and purpose of research, the object of research, and the research approach. Previous studies have included new religions and new movements within existing religions. And in the process, the researches provided insights into religion and the institutionalization of religion, and suggested realistic prescriptions for a desirable religious life. In a Korean situation where religion is constantly changing dynamically, efforts to understand the relationship between religious leaders and followers from a psychological point of view will be more crucial.
