조선시대 차별과 적대의 이해를 위한 시론─『구운몽』을 중심으로─

Abstract

이 글은 한국에서의 차별과 적대의 연원을 전근대에서 찾아보려는 시도이다. 우선 적대의 극점에 있다고 할 수 있는 학살의 사례를 통해 적대가 학살로 이어지는 원인을 살피고자 했는데, 그것이 기본적으로 인간관과 관련되어 있다고 보아 인간적 유대감으로 연구의 방향을 잡았다. 그리고 유대감의 정도를 나타내는 개념으로 인간담장을 설정했다. 구체적인 연구대상으로는 『구운몽』을 잡았는데, 『구운몽』에서 신분, 빈부, 화이, 충역 등의 차별적 시선을 확인할 수 있었다. 양소유는 자신의 정치적 문화적 경계의 안과 밖을 엄격히 차별하였는데, 경계 내에서는 차별적 태도를 보이지 않았다. 양소유의 무차별적인 태도가 차별적 질서에 대한 비판으로 이어진 것은 아니어서, 양소유는 자기에게 주어진 차별은 부정하고 배격했지만, 다른 사람에게 겨누어진 차별은 외면했다. 인간담장이라는 개념으로 볼 때, 양소유는 정치적 문화적 경계의 밖과는 높은 담장을 두었고, 안에서는 담장이 없는 듯하지만 실제로는 차별적 구조를 외면하는 데서 보여주는 것처럼 낮은 담장이 있다. 『구운몽』이 보여준 인간담장은 조선의 지배 이념인 유교 사상과 연관되어 있는데, 유교적 인간관계를 유교의 핵심 사상인 삼강오륜을 통해 살피면서 유교가 인간을 관계 중심으로 본다는 것을 지적했고, 아울러 거기서 차별적 성격을 찾았다. 유교 사상은 중화와 오랑캐를 나누고, 성인과 범인을 나누며, 인간관계 속에서도 임금과 신하, 아버지와 아들을 나누어보면서 관계 속에서 인간을 위치 지우려고 하는데, 여기에서 차별이 싹트고 그것을 규제하는 힘을 통해 억압이 나타난다. 이런 것들이 실제 권력관계 위에 올라가면 폭력이 일방을 향해 작동한다. 유교는 통치의 덕목으로 인(仁)을 강조하지만, 구조 속에서는 차별과 억압을 내포한다고 볼 수 있는 것이다. 그것이 유교적 질서 밖에 있는 존재를 타자화할 때 학살이 나타난다고 보았다.

This paper is an attempt to explore and analyze the origin of discrimination from the pre-modern Choseon. First of all, a genocide is investigated as a result of the hostility, the hostility that leads the genocide is related to the views on human. It was set to human fence as a concept that represents the extent of human bonds. The discrimination between social status, rich and poor, civilization and barbarism, royalty and treason is studied on the novel, the Cloud dream of the Nine 九雲夢. Yang, the main character of the Cloud dream of the Nine has the high human fence between their own political and cultural boundaries and outside of that, but he did not show a discriminatory attitude within the boundaries. However Yang shows the low human fence within the boundaries by ignoring the discriminatory social structure. The relation oriented views are guessed through Five main morality 五倫 in Confucian thought as a dominant philosophy of Choseon. Those make discriminations between China and barbarians, saints and ordinary men, monarch and his subjects, even fathers and sons. The suppression is appeared by discriminations regulating the relationship. And the suppression is transferred to violence, though Confucianism emphasize the In 仁 as the virtues of governance. The violence makes genocide by some occasions.
