Abstract
A new species of the phoxocephalid amphipod, Phoxocephalus tiomanensis, new species, was discovered from the littoral area of Pulau Tioman, Malaysia, South China Sea. This brings the total members of the genus to 11. These 11 species were examined taxonomically, and variation was noted in some characters. Phoxocephalus tiomanensis differs from other congeneric species by the following characters: the subtriangular basis of the pereopod 5, the particular setae at carpus of the pereopod 7, and the absence of facial setae on epimeral plates 2.
