빌렘 플루서의 이미지와 문자 코드론

Abstract

본 연구는 플루서의 철학에서 기술이미지 이전에 탄생한 이미지(그림)와 문자를 대상으로 이 코드들의 탄생맥락, 존재론, 수용론적 의미를 밝히는데 목표를 둔다. 눈의 확장과 주체 의식의 심화로 인간은 세계를 조망할 수 있게 됨에 따라, 자신의 행위에 지도로 삼기 위해 이미지를 발명했다. 이후 본성적으로 회의적, 함축적, 매개적인 이미지를 비평하고 설명하기 위해, 인간은 이미지의 장면을 선으로 풀어헤침으로써 문자를 발명했다. 코드의 존재론적 특성은 코드의 수용방식을 결정한다. 이미지의 장면적 특성 때문에 수용자는 이미지의 전체 메시지를 동시에 포착하지만, 세부 메시지를 파악하기 위해서는 동시성을 통시화해야 한다. 반면, 문자의 선적 특성 때문에 수용자는 문자를 먼저 통시적으로 읽고, 나중에 통시성을 동시화해야 한다. 코드에 따라 인간 의식도 달라진다. 이미지 의식이 장면적, 가역적, 마술적이라면, 문자 의식은 과정적, 비가역적, 역사적이다. 이미지를 대체하기 위해 문자가 발명되었지만, 문자는 세계를 대신해 인간 앞에 서고 자신이 세계의 역할을 한다. 이 같은 부조리를 극복하기 위해 억눌러있던 이미지가 테크놀로지와 결합하여 기술이미지라는 새로운 모습을 띠고서 귀환한다.

This study aims to clarify the meaning of the birth context, ontology, and reception theory of these two codes in the images (pictures) and texts created before the technical image in the philosophy of Flusser. As human became able to overview the world through the expansion of the eyes and the deepening consciousness of the subject, they invented images to guide their behavior. Since then, human invented texts by essentially releasing the scene of images into lines to criticize and explain doubtful, connotative, and mediational images. The ontological nature of the code determines how the code is received. Because of the scene characteristics of the image, one simultaneously captures the entire message of the image, but in order to grasp the detailed message, one has to diachronize synchronicity. On the other hand, because of the texts linear characteristics, one must read the texts diachronically and then synchronize their diachronicity later. The human consciousness also varies depending on the code. If image consciousness is scene-like, reversible and magical, textual consciousness is processual, irreversible and historical. Texts have been invented to replace images, but texts stand before humans on behalf of the world and play the role of the world themselves. To overcome this absurdity, the image that has been suppressed is combined with technology and returns with a new look called technical image.
