dc.description.abstract | Misu Heo-Mok has the school tradition of Classical Studies because he
has interest in not the doctrine of Chu-Hsi but the Six Classics(六經) as classical text. When he writes the 20 volumes of the Keong-Sul(經說) as his classical approaches, he present the five volumes of the Ak-Sul(樂說). Understanding the principle and functions of the Ak-Keong(樂經) in the Six Classics, he concentrates in arranging scriptures as his own method. Although the Ak-sul is not his own theory and explanation of Ak(樂) but editing of scriptures, we can find some characteristic features of his viewpoint and understanding about Ak through the structure and contents of his Ak-Sul. First, it is important that he tries to understand Ak with the recognition of the system of the Six Classics. In the system of the Six Classsics, the Ak-Keong as lost texts could be treated more carefully. He places a great deal of weight about Ak and treats the Ak-Sul as the important part of the Keong-Sul. Second, He construes Ak with one consistent system. As he edits scriptures and old texts to the 5 volumes(Ak-Sul) by choosing and arranging, he presents his theory of Ak. In the Ak-Sul, writing the basic principle and constitutive system of Ak(in the first volume) and explaining the aspect that Ak developes and is revealed(in the second volume), he explains the structure of substance-function(體用) of Ak. After he explains variations and vices which are produced in the operation of Ak(in the third volume), he presents the relation between symptoms of disease and prescription(in the fourth volume). In the fifth volume, illuminating the feature of sound and the function of musical instruments, he writes the institution and the system for performing Ak. Third, he ascertains that Ak is a viewpoint which penetrates from the inside of human to the social and natural order. He thinks Ak is the fundamental theme because it function from the moral culture to the edification of politics. Fourth, as he writes 5 volumes of the Ak-Sul, he uses manifold documents such as scriptures of ancient China(先秦), the text of all philosophers and scholars(諸子百家) and old texts of Han Dynasty(漢). However, not using the arguments about Ak of Song Dynasty(宋), he conducts his approaches in the school tradition of Classical Studies thoroughly. On the whole, his understanding of Ak is one of the trial to find the archetype of Ak in that he arranges the arguments about the principles and actualities of Ak in the various old texts and scriptures. For that purpose, he includes the Ak-Sul in the part of the Keong-Sul and tries to illuminate the aspect of the Ak-Keong as the part of the Six Classics. Although he treats manifold arguments about Ak and even the system of musical instruments, he just only arranges various description about Ak in the ancient China. And it is noticeable features that he excludes the aspect using Ak and theoretical developments of the future. | - |
