- Abstract
- The 21st century, which is known as the digitalized and globalized age, puts
more emphasis on the career development. This emphasis on career development
is due to trends changing from HRM of the industrial age to that of a
knowledge-based age. The individuals of this age, who do not live with a lifelong
job but with a lifelong career, have to engage in more intensive career
development to enhance the market value of his or her resources. Now that
individual competency and pay are thought more important than organizational
loyalty. the organizations provide employees with career development programs
considering their needs for career development. Moreover, organizations must
actualize the career development through which they can develop their core
competency. With these backgrounds, this article is intended to look into
individual and organizational career development fit for the knowledge-based age
from the theoretical basis of HRM and career development.
