Abstract
This paper analyzes the replenishment problem of a single-retailer periodic-review system

with stochastic leadtimes. The retailer faces normally-distributed period demand and incurs a

proportional holding cost and backorder cost on end-of-period net-inventory. The retailer

places an order every m periods, which is received immediately with probability β or β(< m)

periods later with probability (1 – β). This paper shows that the form of the optimal

replenishment policy does not change when leadtimes become stochastic instead of being

fixed. This result still holds both when there are more than two different leadtimes and when

positive fixed-ordering cost is charged.
