Abstract
Theories of radio art at the beginning of radio broadcasting show expectation to the advent of new art genre and to the popularization of the dramatic art through the new media radio. Yi Gyeong-son(李慶孫) anticipated the possibility of new dramatic genre distinguished from stage drama, while Choi Seung-il(崔承一) expressed optimistic prospects of the popularization of the dramatic art through radio broadcasting. As radio became more popular, theory of radio art centered on the nature of radio drama genre. Han Sang-jik(韓相稷) considered the blindness as the merit of radio drama, and Yang Hun(楊薰) defined radio drama as a synthesis of dialogue and music. Yi Seok-hun(李石薰) emphasized the harmony of the narrator method(說話法) and the self-contained method(自足法) in playwriting, while Yang Hun put much value on the original radio drama dialogue. Theory of radio art in the early period of radio broadcasting is well worth examining as it explored the possibility of new art form and the concrete dramaturgy.
