Abstract

This article clarifies the process of formation and friction of Suh Jaepil"s national identity. First, I will shed light on the inter-relations among self, other(s) and the internal-external context of Chosǒn, with its change, in the process of formation of Suh"s national identity. Next, to understand the friction of Suh"s national identity, I will examine the articles of the newspaper "The Independence" published by him. This examination is divided into two subjects of the "viewpoint of Chosǒn-self-esteem and contempt for Chosǒn" and the "sovereignty-independence-national right(s) and power of nation-state." Finally, I will critically reflect the modernity of Suh"s national identity.
