Pinus koraiensis appeared first in the botanical world among Gymnosperms in Korea, which was described by Siebold and Zuccarini with a specimen introduced to Japan. Fourty seven species including exotic taxa which belong to 19 genera and 7 families have been enumerated since Mr. Richard Oldham, a botanist attached to the Kew Botanic gardens, collected Pinus thunbergii from the southern archipelago of Korea in 1862. An identification key of all taxa included here was made through a study of specimens preserved at the Herbarium of Agriculture, Seoul National University, Suwon (HAS) together with a monographic list of gymnosperms in Korea.en
