dc.description.abstract | This article presents a case which involves interesting conflicts between
Gened Motors of Canada Ltd. and Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ud. on one side, and Hyundai on the other in the Canadian auto market. The case also involves the trade and diplomatic relationships between South Korea and Canada. It shows how the cleavages within a liberal government can be strategically exploited by a small corporation; Hyundai was successful in using the various cleavages within the Canadian government. Information also plays an important role. In the joint and interactive decision-making processes, information helps to correct a potential market failure which may occur if private actors act solely based on their own perceptions. Without the information from the public sector, Hyundai could not have mapped out its active strategy. | - |
