친환경 건축 디자인 구축을 위한 전략: 사회적 · 물리적 고려 요인들

Abstract

우리 모두에게 지적될 필요가 있는 수많은 범국가적 사회 문제들은 이미 잘 알려져 있다. 여기엔 빈 곤 문제, 깨끗한 식수와 식량 공급, 경지 확보, 적절한 위생 설비를 갖추는 문제들이 해당된다. 하지 만 궁극적으로 청정한 공기, 물, 대지와 같은 깨끗한 지구 환경 자체가 없다면, 이러한 범국가적 사회 문제들의 압박을 해결하는 것은 훨씬 더 어렵고 비용이 드는 일이 된다. 그러므로 우리의 환경을 살 리는 것은 오늘날의 인류가 다루어야 할 가장 중요한 문제며, 이 시기가 인류 문명의 마지막 천년기가 될지도 모른다는 두려움 속에 이 문제는 조명되고 있다. 디자이너에게 있어서 묻지 않을 수 없는 질문은 이것이다. 지속가능한 미래를 위해 어떤 디자인 을 선보일 것인가? 전세계적으로 기업과 산업들은 그들의 기능과 공정 과정이 환경에 미치는 결과를 이해하고자 하는 비슷한 우려에 직면한다. 만일 자신들의 기능과 공정 과정이 지속가능한 종류의 것 이었다면 어떠했을지 구상해 보고, 생태 친화적인 전략, 새로운 사업 모형과 제품의 구조, 새로운 원 료와 공정 과정들 하에 이 구상된 비전을 실현할 방책을 찾는 것이다. 이에 더하여, 무엇보다도 우리 의 인류 사회는 불가피한 변화를 맞이해야만 한다. We are all only too aware of the numerous pressing global social issues that need to be addressed. These include issues such as addressing abject poverty, providing clean water, adequate food and enclosures, proper sanitation, and so forth. But ultimately if we do not have a clean global environment such as clean air, water, and land, our resolving those other pressing global social issues becomes even more dif­cult and expensive. Thus saving our environment should be the most vital issue that humankind must address today, feeding into our fears that this millennium may be our last. For the designer, the compelling question is: how do we design for a sustainable future? Globally, businesses and industries face similar concerns of seeking to understand the environmental consequences of their functions and processes, to envision what these might be if they were sustainable, and to ­nd ways to realize this vision with ecologically benign strategies, new business models, production systems, materials and processes. More than this, our human society has to change.
