Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discover a basic core meaning of the preposition 08. It is proposed in this paper that the core meaning is contact. The figures below illustrate the relation denoted by 08 in X on Y. Figure (a) can be a prototypical relation. But this form can be altered in different ways, but can be recognized as the same relation. X can appear left or right of Y, and the vertical relation can be reversed (see figures b-d).
