In Kyongsang dialect, three distinctive pitch levels exist; low(L), high(H) and extremely high(H i.e. accented high).
In the dialect, the tone pattern of a word(or larger rhythmic unit, i.e. tonal phrase)is predictable by the pitch of one of the syllables. For the practical purpose of a dialectal survey, it is convenient to mark the pitch properly over the segmental phoneme.
lt is generally recognized that there exist three types of phrasal tone pattern; type 0(or type H), type 1 (or type H) and type 2 (or type L). On this basis, I propose the following notations for representing phrasal tone patterns in Kyongsang dialects;
a . Does the phrase have an accent? yes, then type 0(accent mark) no, then type 1 or type 2.
