dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this paper is to éxamine whether the course of the development of Korean writing system has a historical continuity or not.
In the chapter Ⅱ,Ⅰ discussed the characteristics and limits of the Sino-Korean writing system (Chaja Phyogi: a writing system based on borrowed characters). 1 demonstrated that the background in which the alphbetic writing system. In the chapter Ⅲ Ⅰ argued Chinese phonology on the basis of the Sino-Korean writing system. In the chapter Ⅳ Ⅰ examined the principle of the Korean writing system in the 15th century and the historical development of the Korean writing system from 15th century to 19th century. On the basis of these discussion, I finally proved that the background of the present Korean writing system which have reflected the theory of morphophonology on the orthography had been already formed in the writing system of modern Korean from 16th century to 19th century.
