Abstract

The aim of this paper is to introduce the organization of semantic classes and scrutinize the possibility of their application in the domain of lexical semantics. In this respect, we will first treat the establishment of semantic classes: we will define our semantic classes and explain the appropriate predicate which plays an important role in defining them. Secondly, we will treat the application of semantic classes: we will discuss the problem of distinction between homonymous and polysemous words and show that semantic classes can be used very effectively in treating not only polysemous words but synonymous and compound words.
