연결어미의 문법적 제약에 대한 기술 방법

Abstract

이 논문은 한국어교육 개론서 등에 있는 연결어미의 문법적 제약에 관한 기술을 살핀 것이다. 그 결과, 한 책 안에 일관성이 결여된 기술과 언어사실에 어긋난 여러 기술이 발견되었다. 그러한 문제점을 보완하기 위해 다음과 같은 제안을 하고자 한다.

우선 한 책 안에서 일관성이 결여되어 있는 경우에는 필자들 간의 상의를 통해 수정하기가 어렵지 않을 것이다. 한편 개론서의 기술이 언어사실과 다른 경우 문제의 심각성에 따라 대응 방법이 달라진다. 이들은 크게 세 단계로 나누어서 생각해 볼 필요가 있겠다.

첫째, 기술 내용에 상당한 타당성이 있는데도 문장 표현이 적절하지 못한 경우이다. 이것은 많은 개론서에서 명령문이나 청유문에는 원칙적으로 형용사가 쓰이지 않는다고 하면서도 약간의 예외가 있음을 인정하는 것과 비슷한 방식이라 하겠다.

둘째, 의미기능에 따라 제약이 달라지는 경우이다. 이러한 연결어미의 경우에는 그 의미기능에 따라 제약 현상을 기술하는 것이 바람직하다.

셋째, 실제 언어현상에 완전히 어긋나는 기술로서 가장 심각한 경우이다. 이러한 기술은 전면 수정할 수밖에 없다.

In this paper we examine how the functions of conjunctive endings are described in textbooks on Korean language teaching. Our analysis revealed a number of contradictory descriptions within a book, which may be modified relatively easily. However, descriptions that do not adequately explain the actual usage of conjunctive endings are also found abundantly. In order to solve this issue, we propose three solutions based on the nature of the problems in the descriptions. First, there are cases where descriptions are largely consistent with the actual usage but not entirely. For these descriptions, we suggest minor corrections. In addition, we suggest that some explanations for counter examples should be added to the descriptions. Second, we point out that there are cases where the restrictions on the use of conjunctive endings can be explained by semantic conditions. Therefore, it is important that the functions of these conjunctive endings are explained based on their morphological and semantic conditions. The most serious problem we identified is that there are descriptions that are largely inconsistent with the actual uses of conjunctive endings.
