국제정치에 있어서 말, 상징의 연성권력이론: 이론화를 위한 試論

Abstract

본 논문은 국제정치에 있어서 말과 상징을 이용한 권력, 즉 연성권력(soft-power)의 작동 메커니즘을 이론화하는 기초적 시도이다. 국제정치에 있어서 연성권력은 개념만이 존재해 왔을 뿐, 정교한 이론화 작업이 빈약하였는데, 이 논문은 (1) 상황변화 가속화의 가설, (2) 네트워크 효과의 가설, (3) 정체성 구분과 이미지 조작의 가설, (4)신뢰성의 영향력 가설이라는 네 가지의 기초적 가설을 통하여 국제정치에 있어서 연성권력의 이론화를 모색하였다.

This paper attempts at theorization of soft-power in international politics. Since the concept of soft-power in international politics is yet to be accommodated within a sophisticated theoretical framework, as a first step for theory building, this paper suggests 4 preliminary hypotheses regarding soft-power: (1) acceleration of changes hypothesis, (2) network externality hypothesis, (3) identity differentiation and image manipulation hypothesis, and (4) influence of credibility hypothesis.
