후설 현상학에서 에토스 문제

Abstract

이 논문에서 기존 윤리학에 대한 후설의 비판적 논의로 현상학적 윤리학의 전개에 필수적인 요소로 등장하는 점, 즉 토대나 에토스가 현상학적 철학의 정체성을 분명하게 설명하는데 기여한다는 점을 밝혀나가고자 한다. 이어지는 논의는 첫째로 고대 아테네에서 에토스의 등장과 프로네시스를 주제로 하여 에토스의 고대적 등장 과정을 다루고 이어서 이를 학문적 인식유형의 토대로 끌어들이는 아리스토텔레스 니코마코스 윤리학 에서의 프로네시스 개념을 살핀다. 둘째로, 후설전집 29권과 37권에서의 습성과 토대 문제를 다루어 이 영역이 의미로는 바로 에토스를 말한다는 점을 밝힌다. 셋째, 20세기초 후설의 현상학 강의에서 에토스에 대한 명시적 초점화가 나타나지 않고 있는 점을 에토스 관련 프로네시스 논의의 역사에서 조명한다. 아울러 프로네시스 문제를 토마스 아퀴나스, 하이데거, 디를마이어 등이 다루어왔으나, 그 충분한 의미는 20세기 중반이 넘어서서야 가다머 해석학과 매킨타이어 등에 의해서 비로소 드러났음을 밝힌다. 마지막으로, 이러한 일련의 논의가 뜻하는 바를 인간 역사의 진행을 생각하며 정리하고자 한다.

This essay aims to reveal that Husserl's critical discussion of ethics has emerged as an indispensable element in the development of phenomenological philosophy, namely that the concept of ethos contributes to clarifying the identity of phenomenological philosophy. The following discussion first examines the concept of phronesis in Aristotles Nicomachean ethics, which deals with the emergence process of ethos in ancient Athens. Second, it deals with the problem of habits and foundations in Husserliana Volumes 29 and 37. Third, the fact that there is no explicit focus on ethos in the course of Husserl's phenomenology lecture in the early 20th century will be illuminated in the history of the discussion of ethos. Although Thomas Aquinas, Heidegger and Dirlmeier etc. have dealt with the problem of phronesis, the full meaning of it has been revealed only by Gadamer's hermeneutics and MacIntyre no later than the middle of the 20th century. Finally, I would like to summarize what these discussions mean by considering the progress of human history.
