Abstract
Systematic studies on the family Oecophoridae were conducted on two subjects: i) taxonomical review of the Korean Oecophoridae
ii) molecular phylogeny of Oecophoridae with evolutionary hypotheses in microhabitat and larva sheltering strategy, and biogeographical approach based on molecular dating.
In the first part, the family Oecophoridae is reviewed in the Korean Peninsula, comprising thirty-three species of twelve genera belonging to two subfamilies, Cryptolechiinae stat. nov. and Oecophorinae. One new genus, Exiguacma Kim gen. nov. and four unrecorded genera, Acryptolechia, Batia, Epicallima and Ripeacma, are recognized, including nine new species and three unrecorded species.
The second part is mainly about the phylogeny of Oecophoridae testing a monophyly of the family and confirming the relationship among its constituents, such as subfamilies or genera, with an evolutionary study which explores the ancestral character states, inferring microhabitat and larva sheltering strategy patterns. The phylogenetic analyses indicates that Oecophoridae could not be monophyletic. The oecophorid lineage includes the three subfamilies of Oecophoridae, Cryptolechiinae, Pleurotinae and Oecophorinae, and Xylorycidae as a closest sister family, excluding three genera Casmara, Tyrolimnas and Phaeosaces. The ancestral oecophorids may have evolved from the microhabitat of dried plants with making the silk shelters, shifting from the leaf miner or free living. Additionally, biogeographical hyphothesis of the oecophorid lineage and related higher taxa was also conducted. The Oecophoridae lineage is divergented from the Late Eocene at 43.4 Mya, originated from Afrotopical and Oriental.
