지역별 자장가의 음악적 특징 연구

dc.description.abstract자장가는 어린 아이를 재우기 위해 부르는 노래로 감상을 위해 연행된
노래가 아닌 기층음악이다. 즉 비전문 창자에 의해 불리는 자연태의 음악으
로 선율과 박자, 구조면에서 듣기에 가장 편안한 형태로 구성되어 있어, 지
역별 자장가의 음악적 특징을 분석하는 과정은 우리 음악의 고유한 특색을
연구하는 것이라고도 할 수 있다. 이에 본고에서는 한국민요대전에 수록
되어 있는 42종의 각기 다른 여러 형태의 자장가를 분석하여 자장가 고유
의 음악적 특징을 발견해 보고자 하였다. 선율적 특징과 리듬적 특징으로
나누어 각기 음구성과 선율구조, 소박유형과 속도, 가사붙임새를 분석하였
다. 또한 자장가에 출현하는 노래 외의 대화체 부분에서도 음악적 특징을
찾아볼 수 있어 이를 도섭이라 칭하고 함께 분석하였다.
선율적 특징으로는 각 자장가의 음계에 따른 토리권 구분을 중심으로 음
구성과 선율구조를 살펴보았다. 자장가는 대체로 낮은 음높이에서 한 옥타
브 내외의 좁은 음역을 사용하며 부른다. 4~5개의 출현음을 사용하며 다양
한 음계로 구성되어 있었는데, 메나리토리로 구성된 자장가가 가장 많고 여
러 지역에서 나타나며 육자배기토리도 일부 나타났다. 제주도권과 북한권에
서도 독특한 음구성으로 되어 있었으며 그 외 여러 유형의 토리가 혼합되어
나타나는 복합 토리의 자장가도 있었다. 메나리토리권의 선율구조가 주로
전반의 박자에서 변화하는 반면 육자배기토리권 자장가의 선율구조는 후반
의 박자 변화가 두드러지게 나타났다. 제주도권과 북한권의 자장가는 특정
한 선율구조의 변화경향을 나타내지 않았지만 제주도권 자장가의 도섭은 다
른 지역권의 도섭과는 달리 선율과 리듬, 가사적인 측면에서 모두 기존의
자장가 선율과는 다른 특성을 보인 것이 특징이다.
80bpm 가량의 조금 빠른 속도로 부르는 자장가의 박자는 3소박으로 구
성된 형태가 가장 많이 나타났으며, 2소박으로 구성되거나 2소박과 3소박이
혼합된 형태도 나타난다. 박절유형은 대체로 일정하게 구성되어 있지만 사
설의 붙임에 따라 변형박자를 보이기도 하였다. 가사붙임새는 한 박의 리듬
소가 앞이 짧고 뒤가 긴 형태로 반복되는 구조가 대부분의 악곡에서 나타나고 있는 것이 특징이었다. 도섭이 나타나는 자장가의 경우 각 장단의 마지
막 박에서 도섭이 나타나는 경우가 잦았으며, 새로 구를 구성하여 나타나는
도섭의 경우에는 그 소박의 유형은 선율과 동일하였지만 박자의 길이는 다
르기도 하였다.
자장가는 듣는 사람을 재우기 위한 노래로 부르는 사람과 듣는 사람 모
두가 가장 편안하게 느낄 수 있는 형태로 구성되어 있다. 따라서 자장가가
불리는 지역에 따라 그 음악적 특징이 다르고, 불리는 지역에서 가장 자연
스러운 형태로 구성되어 있을 것이다. 각 지역권에 따라 음 구성, 선율구조
의 변화양상, 박절유형은 다르지만 속도와 소박유형은 전국적으로 유사하게
나타나며, 도섭의 경우에도 제주도를 제외하고는 유사한 음악적 특징을 보
였다. 즉, 3소박으로 구성된 좁은 음폭의 노래가 모든 지역에서 자연스럽게
나타났으며, 선율과 박절의 구조는 전체적으로 나타났지만 메나리토리권의
자장가보다 육자배기토리권의 자장가에서 특정한 위치의 변화가 두드러지게
나타난 것이다.
