- Abstract
- In our search of new secondary metabolites, we collected marine sediment from Micronesia (a subregion of Oceania comprising thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean). From the sediment samples we isolated over 100 actinomycete strains including SMC72, which produces lajollamycin and its new derivatives. The planar stuructures of two of the new derivatives (lajollamycin B and C) were determined by a combination of 1D and 2D NMR, mass and UV spectral analyses. In addition, we determined the absolute configurations of lajollamycin A by J-based configuration analysis and the modified Moshers method. The lajollamycins displayed significant activity inhibiting Candida albicans isocitrate lyase.
