한국전통복식의 조형미를 응용한 해체와 구성의 그래픽적 표현연구

Abstract

시대적으로 복식에는 역사성을 담은 독특한 양식이 반영되어 있으며 풍토성에 따른 인간의 삶의 구조적 의미가 예술적 표현을 통해 발현되어왔다. 이것은 물성을 뛰어넘어 민족성의 본질을 투영하는 미의 상징이라고 할 수 있으며 한국복식의 내면에는 새벽부터 밤늦도록 농사에 여념 없는 농민의 열정과 길쌈을 하고 옷을 짓는 여인네의 정성과 세월을 뛰어넘는 대자연에 대한 깊은 철학이 배어있다. 전통복식의 아름다움은 이러한 한국인의 미의식과 철학을 바탕으로 조형된 결과물이라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 한국복식의 미적측면을 어디서 찾을 것인가. 그리고 한국복식의 조형미를 지탱하고 있는 것은 과연 무엇인가에 대한 물음으로부터 시작하여 한국 전통복식의 형식과 내용을 포함한 조형요소들의 그래픽적 표현 가능성에 대한 연구로 발전하게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 복식의 형태 가운데 저고리에 관한 조형미를 추출하여 연구하고자 한다. 저고리는 한복의 선을 가장 집약적으로 표현한 복식의 형태로 서 본 연구에 적절한 요소를 갖춘 것으로 판단되며 유물저고리 중 가장 오랜 연대를 보이는 고려시대1302년(충렬왕28년)이전으로 추정되는 상의에서부터 조선말 개화기에 이르기까지 기능적, 심미적으로 가장 다양하게 변화되어온 복식형태이다. 한국복식의 조형미는 크게 형태, 소재, 색채, 문양으로 구분되어지는데 그중 형태면에서 보이는 선과 면의 흐름은 효과적인 공간 분할로 평면재단의 단점을 극복하고 있다. 평면옷감을 직선 재단하여 평면 옷으로 만들고 남는 부분은 주름으로 만들거나 접어서 끈으로 고정하는 방식으로 입체화하는독특한 구성방식을 가지고 있다. 이러한 선과 면의 진행은 활동성을 부여하고 생리학적인 기능과 함께 미적 유희의 요소로 반영되기도 했다. 저고리에서의 이 흐름을 이루는 요소들을 제작하여 해체, 새롭게 재조합하는 과정을 거쳐 기존 복식의 틀을 벗어난 색다른 형태를 이끌어내어 한복의 공식을 뒤집어 보았다. 그 위에 해체된 요소들을 다양한 패턴으로 제작하여 우리나라의 전통적 삶과 밀접한 절기이야기를 함께 얹어보았다. 또한 색채미는 지리적 기후적 특성과 가치개념에 따라 민족별로 다른 주조색이 나타난다. 자연에서 색을 얻고 절기마다 다양한 소재의 한복을 입는 우리나라만이 가진 아름다운 복식문화 한복. 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 아우르는 전통 한국복식을 새롭게 뒤집어 그래픽적 이미지로 전환해 보았다.

본 연구의 체계적인 탐구와 활용을 위해 다음과 같은 과정으로 진행되었다.

첫째, 한국복식의 역사와 시대적으로 변화되어온 다양한 요소들에 대한 조사연구를 바탕으로 복식미의 관점과 한국적 조형미의 개념을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 어떠한 관점으로 복식의 미적측면과 조형미에 대한 요소가 추출되었는지에 대해 살펴보았다.

둘째, 한국복식의 조형미 특징에 대해 분류하고 분석하였다. 대표적으로 보이는 요소들을 추출하여 정리하였으며 형태와 소재, 색채부문을 위주로 시각적 표현방법을 살펴보았다. 또한 기하학적 흐름을 분석함으로써 해체와 한국복식이 가진 독창적 요소들을 추출해 보았다.

셋째, 대표적으로 저고리 선의 흐름과 기하학적인 전개방식, 소재의 질감을 해체와 재구성 이라는 방식을 통해 실제 작품을 제작하였다.

본 연구는 한국복식이 나타내고 있는 외적인 특성을 찾아내는 작업과 함께 내면적인 조형미의 근원을 고찰하는 단서를 찾고 그것으로 그래픽적 표현방식을 탐구한 것이다.또한 한복이 대표적인 한국문화 임에도 조형미를 적용한 매체나 상품을 보면 복식의 외형적 단편만 표현하는 방식으로 진행되어왔다고 보여진다. 한국복식의 세계화를 지향하는 의미를 본다면 기존방식을 응용, 발전시킬 필요성을 느끼며 본 연구가 복식 조형미의 요소를 이용한 전통문화의 그래픽 표현방식을 고민한 기반연구로서 다양한 활용이 이루어지기를 기대해 본다.

Periodically, costume reflects unique patterns containing historicity and manifests the structural meaning of human life based on endemism through artistic expression. This can be said to be the symbol of beauty reflecting the essence of ethnicity beyond physical properties. Korean costume implies a farmers passion immersed into farming from dawn till night, a womans earnest making cloth and clothes, and profound philosophy on nature beyond time. The beauty of traditional costume can be seen to be the formative result based on such aesthetic consciousness and philosophy of Koreans.

Where can be the aesthetic aspects of Korean costume found? With the start of asking what the support of formative beauty of Korean costume is, this research has been developed regarding the possibility of graphic expression of formative elements including the forms and contents of Korean traditional costume. This study aims to examine the extraction of formative beauty on geogori among the various forms of costume.Geogori is the form of costume that most intensively expresses the lines of Hanbok and has the proper elements for this research. It has the types of costume changed variously in functional and aesthetic aspects from upper clothes whose year of creation is presumed to be Goryeo 1302 (King Chungryeol 28), the oldest among geogori relics, to those of the time of enlightenment in late Joseon. The formative beauty of Korean costume can be largely divided by forms, materials, colors, or patterns, and the flow of lines and sides shown in forms of those overcomes the defects of cutting with the effective division of space. It has a unique method of cubic design to cut plane cloth straightly and make plane clothes and create wrinkles with the remaining part or fold and fix it with a strap. Such proceedings of lines and sides provide activity and are sometimes reflected as elements for aesthetic amusement along with physiological functions. This study reverses the formulas of Hanbok through the process of designing elements consisting of that flow in geogori and also dismantling and recomposing to induce unique forms different from the frames of costume. Moreover, to designing various patterns with dismantled elements, this study adds a story of solar terms which is close to traditional life in Korea. Also, regarding the beauty of colors, there are different main colors by nations according to geographical or climatic characteristics and value conception. This paper converts it into graphic image by newly reversing Korean traditional costume embracing the past, present, and future as well as Koreas beautiful costume culture of Hanbok made of colors from nature and various materials by solar terms.

This study has proceeded through the following process for systematic exploration and utility.

First, based on research on the history of Korean costume and various elements that have been changed periodically, this study analyzes the viewpoints of costume beauty and Korean formative beauty.Through that, this research examines from what viewpoint the aesthetic aspects of costume and elements of formative beauty are extracted.

Second, this study categorizes and analyzes the characteristics of formative beauty of Korean costume. It arranges the extracts of elements to be the representatives and examines the methods of visual expression focusing on forms, materials, and colors. Moreover, by analyzing the geometric flow, this study extracts original elements that dismantlement and Korean costume have.

Third, the actual work is designed through the method of typical geogori line flow and geometric development and the method of dismantling and recomposing the texture of material.

This study finds the clues considering the source of internal formative beauty as well as the work to find external features shown in Korean costume and explores the method of graphic expression with it. Also, though Hanbok is typical Korean culture, it is seen that the media or products applying formative beauty only expresses the external fragments of costume. In the sense of pursing internationalization of Korean costume, it is necessary to apply and develop previous methods, and it is expected to conduct various use out of it as a foundational research considering methods of graphic expression of traditional culture using the elements of formative beauty of costume.
