한국의 언론사교육 현황과 과제

Abstract

이 연구는 우리나라 언론학교육의 역사관련 과목이 빠르게 감소하고 있는 현실에서 언론사 관련 교육현황의 실체를 조사하여, 그 요인과 과제를 분석하고 언론사교육의 개선방안을 모색하였다. 언론사 관련 교과목은 1985년 학부과정에서 조사대상 학교 전체 개설 교과목의 8.2%를 차지했으나, 2001년 5.2%로 39%이상 감소했다. 2006년 6월 현재 조금 더 감소하여 전체 교과목의 4.9%를 차지했다. 이런 추세라면 언론사 관련교과목은 앞으로도 더 감소될 것으로 전망된다. 대학원의 경우 1985년 11개 대학원에서 언론사 관련 교과는 개설교과목의 9.5%를 차지했는데, 2006년은 17개 대학원에서 17개로 전체 전공과목의 3.2%를 차지했다. 학부과정 보다 더 낮은 실정이다. 이것은 사회적 수요에 더 민감한 대학원 현실과 함께 언론사 연구후속세대의 교육과 출현자체가 매우 힘든 상황임을 말해준다. 학문의 기초인 언론의 역사를 이해하는 것은 현대 매스 커뮤니케이션의 구조와 성격을 올바로 인식하고 한국 언론학의 진정한 학문적 정립을 위해 무엇보다 필요한 과제의 하나라는 점에서 언론사 교육 필요성에 대한 인식을 제고하고, 언론사교육 내용의 보완과 함께 학회 차원에서 언론사교육을 위한 정책적인 대책이 절실하게 요청되는 시점이다.

This study, under the circumstances that history-related subjects are confronted with rapid reduction in curricula in Korea, is to investigate the status of the education for journalism and communication history and seek the solution to its problem. As result of research the rate of history-related subjects was 8.2% of curricula for journalism and communication studies at undergraduate programs in 1985, 5.2% in 2001 which means 39% reduction, and 4.9% in 2006. At this tendency more reduction is expected to continue in the future. Meanwhile, in graduate courses, the rate 9.5% in 1985, and 3.2% in 2006, less than that of undergraduate courses. It tells that graduate school is more sensitive to social demand, therefore the education for and the participation by the succeeding research generation become more difficult. To understand the history of journalism and communication as the basis of study is very important to recognize the structure and characteristics of contemporary media in a right way and to develop real academic establishment of journalism and communication studies in Korea. In this respect, the policy support at the level of academic society field as well as the complement of contents for the education of journalism and communication history are highly requested.
