비재현적 글쓰기와 정동: <기호의 제국>과 <딕테> 비교연구

Abstract

This thesis explores forms of non-representational writings and its affects in Roland Barthess the Empire of the Signs and Theresa Hak Kyung Chas Dictée. Both texts attempt to construct the spaces of the Others, Japan and Korea, as textual spaces that exist in between the real and the fictive. The Empire of the Signs and Dictée do not set Japan and Korea as real sites to investigate and reveal its social and anthropological meanings. Rather both Japan and Korea are suggested to have political values that can resist Western modernity in the texts. The Empire of the Signs stages fictive Japan to criticize homogeneous structures of modernity in Western society. Also, Dictée presents Korea as a textual place that is filled with repressed voices and forgotten histories of the subaltern in order to criticize the nature of progressive modernity. In other words, Both of the texts construct textual spaces of the Other to point out limits of the ideology of the modern in the West. However, at the same time, the Empire of the Signs and Dictée reflect the problem of representation of the Other through the forms of intermedia-writing. The Empire of the Signs demonstrates photographic writing that disconnects the corresponding relation between images and text-writing. The text-writing has its own movement to represent and appropriate Japan while the photographic images stop the progress of it. These textual dynamics put writing and images in tension so that the text as a whole cannot own the sign of the Other, Japan. This textual tension showcases the tone of discretion. Discretion is a textual effort to find the proper distance between self and the Other, Barthes and Japan. Also, Dictée adopts the form of filmic writing to deconstruct cultural representation and the desire of recovering the missing narratives in official history. Dictée problematizes the desire of progress in representation because it solidifies the memory and history of the Other in linear time. Filmic writing, on the other hand, infuses life into the history so that memories of the subaltern can freely roam around and unfold on screen-writing space of the text. It creates plural and circular structures in the text, which memory of the past and the present can coexist. Through this form, Dictée embodies the tone of melancholy that incorporates the loss.

이 연구는 롤랑 바르트의『기호의 제국』과 테레사 학경 차의『딕테』에 나타난 간매체적인 글쓰기의 형식이 지니는 비재현적인 성격과 이 형식이 체현하는 정동을 비교한다. 바르트의『기호의 제국』과 차의『딕테』는 각각 일본과 한국이라는 동아시아의 공간이자, 타자의 공간을 사실과 허구 사이에 존재하는 제 3의 텍스트적인 공간으로 제시한다. 일본과 한국을 텍스트적인 공간으로 제시한다는 점에서『기호의 제국』과 『딕테』는 일본과 한국을 실제적인 역사를 탐색하는 종류의 공간으로 설정하지 않는다. 바르트와 차에게 일본과 한국은 서구중심의 근대성의 반대항에 있는 타자의 공간으로 나타난다. 바르트의 『기호의 제국』에서 일본은 서구의 자기 동일적인 근대성을 비판할 수 있는 이질적인 타자의 공간으로 나타나는 한편, 차의『딕테』에서 한국은 근대가 진보하며 억압한 하위 주체의 목소리와 역사가 존재하는 타자의 공간으로 나타난다. 서구 중심적인 근대를 비판할 수 있는 타자의 공간으로 등장한다는 점에서 일본은 바르트로 대변되는 서구 지식인이 매료되는 대상이며, 한국은 차로 대변되는 이산 주체에게 상실된 대상이자 애착의 대상으로 존재한다. 이 때 『기호의 제국』과 『딕테』는 모두 타자에 대한 주체의 상상을 나열하는 것에 그치지 않고 간매체적인 글쓰기의 형식을 통해 타자를 재현하는 문제를 성찰하고 해체하며, 각각 신중함과 멜랑콜리의 정동을 내보인다.『기호의 제국』은 글쓰기와 사진 이미지의 비유기적인 관계를 보여주는 사진적인 글쓰기를 보여준다. 텍스트는 일본을 재현하여 전유하려는 글쓰기의 움직임과 이 글쓰기의 진전을 퇴각 시키는 사진의 기능을 동시에 보여준다. 사진적인 글쓰기의 형식을 통해 『기호의 제국』은 타자를 전유하여 소유하지 않기 위해 타자와의 적절한 거리를 형성하려는 신중함을 텍스트의 정동이자, 어조로서 보여준다. 또한 차의『딕테』는 영화적인 글쓰기를 통해 근대의 서사에서 억압된 역사를 있는 그대로 복원하려는 재현의 한계를 넘어 선다. 『딕테』는 모국의 역사를 직선적인 시간의 논리에 따라 구성하고 응고시키려는 욕망을 비판하고 해체한다. 그리고 영화적인 글쓰기를 통해 텍스트는 역사에 움직임과 활력을 불어넣으며, 타자의 기억이 자유롭게 재연될 수 있는 스크린-글쓰기의 공간을 형성한다. 영화적인 글쓰기의 형식을 통해 『딕테』는 자아와 타자 그리고 현재와 과거가 공존할 수 있는 복수의 공간을 형성할 뿐만이 아니라, 상실된 것으로 여겨지는 과거를 현재에도 대면하는 원형적인 구조를 형성한다. 그리고 이 원형적인 구조를 통해『딕테』는 상실과 합체하는 멜랑콜리의 정동을 보여주며 타자의 윤리로 향해 나아간다
