Abstract

Donghak Cathedral東學敎, which denied the legitimacy of Hewol Choi Si Hyeong(海月崔時亨, 1827-1898) and called themselves as Southern Party南接, was founded by Kim Joo-hee (金周熙, 1860-1944) in 1922 in SangJu, Kyungpook. They write the Scriptures in the form of Kasa[an old form of Korean verse]. And their idea is called Checheon體天(following the model of the heaven). Existing researches on Checheon philosophy consider heaven as external and transcendental being. On the other hand they dont pay attention to meaning of Che體, which means following example of someone. This article examines the concept of Saint, who follows the model of the heaven and taught the heavens way to the people in Confucian sense. Donghak Cathedral(東學敎) thinks traditional Confucianism and the ideology of the Donghak side by side. Donghak Cathedral considers Suwoon Choi Je-Woo as the Saint in Confucian sense. That is to say, Checheon體天is that following the will of heaven by the teaching of Choi Je-Woo, who Saint of Donghak Cathedral.
