4년제 대졸 직장인의 대학원 진학 의사 결정에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석

Abstract

이 연구는 4년제 대학을 졸업하고 사회로 진출한 직장인이 대학원에 진학하고자 하는 이유를 확인하고, 개인과 직장 수준에서 어떤 특성들이 대학원 진학 의사를 결정하는 데 유의한 영향을 미치는지 밝히기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 한국교육고용패널(KEEP) 12차년도 자료(2015년 조사)를 활용하여 분석하였다. 구체적인 분석대상은 2007년부터 2012년까지 기간 동안 4년제 대학을 졸업한 733명 중 임금 근로자인 476명이다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 4년제 대졸 직장인 중 15.5%가 대학원 진학 의사를 가지고 있었으며, 이 중 대다수가 관심분야를 공부하고 직무능력을 향상시키기 위한 목적을 가지고 있었다. 그리고 근무형태에 따라 대학원 진학을 희망하는 이유에는 특별한 경향성을 보이지 않았다. 둘째, 4년제 대졸 직장인의 대학원 진학 의사 결정에 영향을 미치는 요인을 살펴보기 위해 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 개인수준에서는 생계유지보다 자아실현 및 사회봉사를 목적으로 직업을 선택했거나, 경제적 성공을 위해 본인 노력보다 혈연, 학연 등 외적 요소를 중시하는 직장인이 대학원 진학 의사를 가질 확률이 더 높았다. 그리고 직장수준에서는 서울에 근무하는 직장인일수록, 업무와 전공일치도가 높을수록, 직장만족도가 높을수록, 업무만족도가 낮을수록 대학원 진학 의사를 가질 확률이 더 높았다. 이러한 결과들은 사회에 진출한 직장인들의 대학원 교육에 대한 새로운 수요 등을 고려하여 대학원 교육이 더 다양화·특성화될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study is to identify the reasons as to why those who hold bachelor's degree are pursuing graduate study having joined a workforce and to figure out the effects of individual or job-related characteristics on entering graduate school. Using the 12th year (2015) Korean Education & Employment Panel (KEEP) data, 476 employed people's responses out of 773 people with four-year college degree had been analyzed. The main results of the analysis are as follows. First, 15.5% of employees with four-year bachelor's degree showed a desire to pursue graduate study; their primary motive was to improve job skills and competency. Second, the reason for desiring graduate study did not differ by their job descriptions. Finally, a logistic regression analysis showed that, in the individual level, the people who whose job choice driven not by making a living but by a desire for self-actualization, the service to our society, and those who value human network over personal endeavors for their financial success are more likely to desire graduate study. In addition, those who work in Seoul, those whose job description matches with their undergraduate major, those who are more content with their job, those who are discontent with workplaces are more likely to pursue graduate study. These results suggest that graduate school education needs to be diversified and specialized regarding new demands for entering graduate schools of workers who have already had a job.
