'하나'의 개념을 통해 형성된 상징적 이미지 표현 연구

Abstract

This study is based on my artworks produced from 2015 to 2019. The purpose of this study is to organize and explain the works systematically. This study seeks to analyze the content, subject, and expression focusing on my works. Also, this study examines the artworks critically to suggest my future development direction.

In the history, painting was just one of the way to record the communitys labor process, or just to record and show something as monument. It means, in those days art was just treated as one of the tools to document the time of humankind. However, everyone who try to do its own art today(who is called as an Artist), do not treat art just as a tool for document, but for the means to communicate with the world. Art is now performing a role of language for the artist. As the artist always throw questions to themselves and then put their answer in the artworks, so the acceptor of these works also can get a same question about this world.

What causes the difference between individuals?

This is the question Ive got from this world, and this is what Ive tried to find out through my artworks. Based on the question What causes the difference between individuals?, this study is organizing my artworks in conceptual, expressional, and methodological ways systematically. This study is largely composed of 5 chapters. Each chapter is composed of Ⅰ. Introduction, Ⅱ. The World Revealed by One, Ⅲ. Expression of Artworks Embodied with Symbolic Image, Ⅳ. Ways of Communication Through Image and Color, and for the last, Ⅴ. Conclusion.

In chapter Ⅰ, I suggest the question of What causes the difference between individuals? to reveal what comes behind my artworks. This chapter also clarifies the flows of the broad outline of the study. Chapter Ⅱ specifies the concept of One, which is used as the base thoughts of the artworks. Concept of One is categorized in three part. First, One as individual being. Second, One as structure formed by interactions between individual beings. Third, the last, One as the result derived from mutual interactions. These categorized three Ones interact with each other continuity, so that Ones ultimately build the world. Chapter Ⅲ is classifying artworks in three kinds of image objects. These classified three objects are Image of Gear Wheel, Image of City, and Image of Human. Each part is covering the classified image as a subordinary subject, so the chapter describes how images are related to the concept of One, whats the background reason of appearance in artworks, and what kind of techniques and materials are used for each part. Chapter Ⅳ organizes the meaning of image and color based on artworks. Chapter focuses on the role of image and color. The image function as my own language in art, and the color affects appreciators positive way of mind. Lastly, Chapter Ⅴ summarizes the matters discussed in main paragraphs and examines the significance of art.

역사 속에서 처음 등장하는 그림은 노동생산을 위한 기록이었다. 그러나 오늘날 우리가 접하고 받아들이는 예술은 역사의 흐름에 따라 단순한 기록으로 남기를 거부한다. 현대의 예술은 하나의 고유한 언어로서 작가가 세상과 이야기하는 창으로 변모해왔으며, 작가는 사회화로 약속된 문자와 언어가 아닌 고유의 매체를 통해 수용자에게 뜻을 전달한다. 이러한 변화 속에서 작가는 항시 질문을 던지고 작품을 통해 답을 찾아간다. 스스로를 향한 질문이기도 하며, 사회를 향한 질문이기도 하다.

본고는 개별의 다름은 무엇으로부터 기인하는 것일까?라는 질문에서부터 시작하여, 답을 찾아 가는 과정에서 진행한 다양한 작업을 기반으로 하고 있다. 이를 통해 작업에서 드러나고 있는 나의 사고 관과 고유의 언어를 개념적, 표현적, 방법론적으로 분석하고 체계적으로 제시하는 데에 그 목적을 둔 작품 연구 논문이다.

연구의 바탕이 된 개별의 다름은 무엇으로부터 기인하는 것일까?라는 질문에 대해 본 논문에서는 그 원인을 다양한 하나들의 상호작용에서 찾고 있다. 세상을 구성하고 있는 모든 존재 및 현상은 각각 하나의 독립적인 요소로 인정되고 있으나, 동시에 그를 구성하는 하위의 수많은 하나로 이루어져 있기도 하다. 또한, 독립적 요소들을 통해 형성된 상위의 하나로 이르기도 한다. 이러한 하나에 대한 주체적 해석을 바탕으로, 개별 존재의 형성과 이를 통해 이루어지는 전체의 구조적 형성을 이미지라는 형상 언어를 활용해 작품으로 보여주고자 하였다. 이러한 작업의 양상은 하나로서 신(神)을 담고 이미지로서 형(形)을 갖춘다. 이러한 하나와 이미지라는 두 가지의 중심 요소를 바탕으로 진행된 작업에 대해 연구하고, 분석하고자 한다.

본 논문은 크게 다섯 개의 장으로 이루어져 있으며, 각 장은 Ⅰ. 머리말, Ⅱ. 하나를 통해 드러나는 세계, Ⅲ. 상징적 이미지를 통한 하나의 표현, Ⅳ. 형과 색을 통한 소통의 방식, Ⅴ. 맺음말로 구성되어 있다.

제 Ⅰ장에서는 작업의 바탕이 된 의문과 창작의 동기가 된 생각에 대하여 서술하고, 본 논문에서 전개 될 연구 주제와 목적을 간략하게 밝히고자 한다. 제 Ⅱ장에서는 작업의 기반이 되는 사고관으로 하나에 대한 개념을 명시하고, 어떤 의미를 가지고 형성되었는지 구체적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 해당 장에서는 하나가 가지는 개별적 의미와 단계별 상호작용을 통해 형성되는 구조적 의미를 포괄하여 명시하고 있으며, 하나의 개념을 개별 실재로서의 하나, 관계를 통한 작용으로부터 파생되는 구조로서의 하나, 작용의 결과로 도출되는 하나의 세 단계로 분류하여 서술하고 있다. 제 Ⅲ장에서는 나의 작업을 토대로 하여, 하나를 드러내기 위해 작업에 매개체로 차용한 이미지를 살펴보고, 이를 톱니바퀴 이미지, 도시 이미지, 인간 이미지로 분류하였다. 각 이미지가 작업에 등장하게 된 배경과 이미지가 가지는 의미를 중점적으로 다루고 있으며, 제 Ⅱ장에서 정의 내린 하나의 개념을 어떠한 방식으로 형상화 하였는지, 또한 어떠한 기법을 특징적으로 활용하였는지에 주목하고 있다. 제 Ⅳ장에서는 작가와 수용자 사이의 소통을 위한 방식의 일환으로 작업 전반에 드러나 있는 형(形)과 색(色)이 가지는 의의에 대해 정리하고 있다. 형으로 기능하는 이미지가 작업에 어떻게 작용하는지, 색이 수용자에게 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 그 관계에 대해 살펴보며, 작품에 반영된 조형 요소로서 이미지와 색의 기능 및 역할을 서술하고 있다. 마지막으로 제 Ⅴ장에서는 본론에서 논의 한 내용을 요약하고, 이를 바탕으로 나의 작업이 갖는 의의를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 통해 작업을 비판적으로 고찰함으로서 앞으로의 발전 방향에 대해 제시하고 있다.
