참여미술을 통한 공공성의 재고에 관한 연구

Abstract

공공성은 공적인 영역의 특성이나 규범적인 속성을 뜻한다. 이는 사람 들의 공동된 생활환경이나 삶의 조건을 다루기 때문에 중요하다. 공공성 은 공공장소의 성격과 그곳에서 일어나는 사건들로 발현되기도 하며, 반 대로 공공장소가 사람들의 생활양식을 규정하거나 특징 짓기도 한다. 우 리가 살고 있는 도시환경의 공공적인 성격을 구축하고 수정하는 것은 양 도할 수 없는 중대한 과제다. 본인은 미술과 삶의 통합을 전제로 미술의 비판적 기능을 탐구한다. 비판적 미술은 사람들이 갖고 있는 지배적인 감각을 환기하고 스스로 변 화하려는 욕구를 일깨우려는 목표를 갖는다. 미학의 의미를 우리가 공통적으로 갖고 있는 감성의 준거 전반으로 바라볼 때 비판적 미술의 과제는 이 체계를 재편하는 것이 된다. 구체적으로 공적 영역에 개입해 서 논쟁적인 상황을 생산해 기존의 헤게모니와 경합하는 것으로 미 술의 사회적 기능과 정치적 의미는 탐구될 수 있다. 미술의 비판적 역할을 탐구하고자 본인은 참여미술 프로젝트를 통해 공공성을 다루는 연구를 진행했으며, 이를 위해 공공미술의 비교적 최근 흐름인 새 장르 공공미술을 참고했다. 관객을 적극적인 주체로 위치 시키는 이 범주의 미술은 사회문제를 소재로 일상의 영역에 개입해 새로 운 생활양식을 창출하려는 특징을 갖는다. 이 논문에서 다루는 본인의 참여미술 프로젝트는 그 내용에 따라 도시환경의 개선과 법제도의 문제로 분류된다. 공공장소에의 개입은 특정한 공공장소의 성격을 변화시키는 것을 통해 다양한 주체가 무의식적으로 갖고 있던 감성을 드 러내는 것을 다룬다. 법제도의 문제의 프로젝트는 공공성에 제약이 될 수 있는 법제도에 대해 발언하는 다양한 경로를 탐구한다. 이에 해당하는 프로젝트를 각각 기획의도와 진행과정, 그리고 성과와 한계로 나눠 분석하고자 한다. 이를 통해 사회구성원의 입장에서 공공성 의 문제를 다루는 다채로운 미술의 전략과 과제를 드러낼 수 있다고 생 각하며, 그에 대한 이론적 토대를 마련하고자 한다. 또한, 본 논문을 통 해 앞으로 나아갈 작업의 방향을 모색하고자 한다

Publicness refers to the nature of public sphere or normative property. It is important because it means people's shared living environment or living conditions. Publicness is often expressed by the nature of public spaces and events that take place in there. On the other hand, public spaces define and characterize people's way of living. Constructing and modifying the public nature of the urban environment in which we live is a critical task that cannot be transferred. I explore the critical function of art on the premise of integrating art with life. Critical art is art to evoke the dominant sense that people have and to awaken the desire to change themselves. Defining aesthetics as the criteria of senses that we share, the task of critical art is to reorganize the sensible system. Specifically, the social function and political meaning of art can be explored by intervening in public spheres to produce argumentative situations and agonize with existing hegemony. Exploring the critical role of art, I conducted a study on publicness through participatory art projects. I referenced "New Genre Public Art, which is relatively recent current of public art. This category of art, which places audiences as active subjects is characterized by intervening in the realm of everyday life under the theme of social issues to create a new lifestyle. My participatory art projects in this paper can be categorized as Improvements on Urban Environment and Problem of Legal System according to their contents. "Interventions in Public Spaces deals with changing the nature of particular public spaces to reveal unconscious senses of various subjects. The project of the "Problem of Legal System explores various channels of social speaking about the legal system that can be constrained to publicness. The corresponding projects will be analyzed in planned intentions, progress, and achievements and limitations. These projects reveal a variety of strategies and tasks dealing with the problems of publicness from the perspective of the members of society.
