가정의례에서 사용되는 시각이미지에 대한 연구

Abstract

가정의례(家庭儀澧)란 일생동안 출생, 결혼, 장례 등 가족을 중심으로 치러지는 예절을 일컫는 말로 중국의 주희가 1169년에 쓴 책 『가례(家禮)』에서 유래되었다. 여기에서 가례란 관혼상제(冠婚喪祭)를 일컫는다. 1969년에는 「가정의례준칙」이 반포되었는데, 성년례·혼례·상례·제례·수연례에 관한 의례 내용 및 간략한 식순을 포함하고 있다. 이 준칙은 강제성을 띠지 않으나 준칙의 보급과 실천의 권장을 전제로 한다. 우리나라는 사상적으로 민속신앙의 기반 위에 불교, 유교, 기독교 등 다양한 종교적 영향을 받아왔다. 역사적으로는 일제강점기와 근대화를 거치며 생활 속 가정의례의 종류와 관습이 변화해왔다. 오늘날에는 도시와 농촌, 지역적 관습과 종교, 개인의 주거 형태 및 라이프스타일에 따라 다양한 형태의 가정의례가 운용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 가정의례의 범위설정을 통해 도출한 주요 가정의례 범위인 출생, 결혼, 장례를 중심으로 가정의례의 역사와 유래를 짚어보았다. 특히 의례 상황에서 사용된 의례와 관련된 물품들을 유형적 매개물(Tangible Medium)로 정의하고, 각 매개물이 갖는 전통적 의미와 그 형식적 변화를 살펴보았다. 작품연구에서는 크게 무병장수, 인연과 금슬, 수호와 염원 등을 상징하는 세 가지 카테고리를 중심으로 전통적인 문양에서 비롯된 요소들을 추출하고 이를 현대적으로 재해석하고자 하였다. 나아가 출생, 결혼, 장례뿐 아니라 일상생활 속에서도 적용할 수 있는 데일리 오브제(Daily Objet)와 같은 유형적 매개물의 제안을 통해 전통적인 가정의례의 의미를 되새기고 그 안에 있는 본연의 의미를 확장할 수 있는 역할을 제안하고자 한다.

Family rites refer to the familys customs, such as the celebration of birth, marriage, and obsequies. These rites originate from the book Garye, written by Zhu Xi of China in 1169. The Family Rite Standards issued in 1969, proposed rites for the coming-of-age, marriage, funerals, and rituals. Although there was no obligation to follow the rites, it was broadly advocated and disseminated. Korea has been, on top of folk beliefs, ideologically influenced by various religions, including Buddhism, Confucianism, and Christianity. The Japanese colonial era and modernization have also shaped the ceremonies conducted in Korea. Today, a wide variety of family rituals has emerged affected by urban and rural areas, local customs, religions, type of housing, and personal lifestyle. In this study, the history and origin of family rituals are pointed out, focusing on the main family rituals, such as birth, marriage, and funerals. In particular, items related to rituals used in ceremonial situations were defined as Tangible mediums, and I looked at the traditional meaning of each medium and its formal changes. In my work, the three categories that symbolize Sound long life, Gold bead bliss, and Guardian and aspiration were designed by extracting elements from traditional patterns and reinterpreting them in a modern way. I further propose Daily Objets for everyday use to rethink the meaning of traditional family rituals and expand it through modern society.
