전문 예술교육의 현황 분석

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 국내 예술중학교의 현주소를 구체적으로 재고하고 창의성, 전문성 중심의 교육 현장으로서 그 발전을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는 것에 있다. 이를 위해 연구는 크게 두 단계로 구성되어 있다. 첫째, 문헌 조사를 통한 전국에 미술과가 설치된 예술중학교 6개교의 현황과 미국, 영국, 싱가폴, 러시아, 이스라엘을 포함하는 해외 5개국의 예술학교의 사례를 비교한다. 둘째, 예술중학교 '예원학교' 미술부 교(강)사의 심층면담 과정을 살펴본다. 국내 예술중학교는 실상 한국 전문 예술 인재 양성교육의 주축으로 기능하고 있음에도 불구하고 교육적, 국가적인 차원에서 미묘하게 소외되어 있는 실정이다. 선행된 예술중학교 미술과에 관한 연구는 이영선(2010)의 연구에 불과하였으며, 예술중학교는 국가적으로 '예술계열 특성화 중학교' 혹 '각종학교'로 분류되어 전국적으로 학교 구분이 동일하지 않게 운영되는 등 체제의 미비함이 제기되고 있다. 결과적으로 본 연구는 예술중학교의 질적 성장을 위한 기본 방향 6가지를 제시하였다. 첫째, 국가적으로 '예술중학교' 혹 '영재학교'와 같이 그 성격을 분명히 한 독립적인 체제 마련을 선행하고 구체적인 개선방안들의 실효성이 마련되어야 한다. 둘째, 예술중학교의 교육목표를 '실기 전문인 양성교육'에서 '예술 창의 인재 육성교육'으로 더욱 분명히 해야 한다. 셋째, 예술중학교는 기초 실기 집중교육 뿐만 아니라 예술교육 내용 범위의 확장을 지향해야 한다. 넷째, 예술중학교 선발과정의 수평적 확장이 이루어져야 한다. 다섯째, 예술중학교 미술부 교사의 업무 부담 개선 및 교육인력의 세분화가 이루어져야 한다. 여섯째, 재정적 지원을 통한 학교환경이 개선되어야 한다. 이를 통해 창의성, 전문성을 내건 핵심역량 중심의 새로운 교육과정이 시행되는 시점에서 전문적인 예술교육 현장으로서 예술중학교가 재고되고 그 가치가 재정립되길 기대한다. 특히 본 연구는 6개교의 거시적인 자료 분석과 1개교의 심층면담으로 이루어진 기초 연구에 불과하며 후에 지속적인 연구를 통해 보다 구체적인 내용이 공유, 논의되며 한국 전문 예술교육에의 인식 변화 및 실효성 있는 체제가 구축되어 선순환이 이루어지길 기대한다.

The intent of this study is to reconsider the current situation of the arts middle school in Korea and to provide development directions for the creativity and professionalism centered art schools. The study is composed of two phases. The first phase, which is based on literature reviews, is about comparing the current reports of six arts middle schools in Korea where visual art major is installed to the reports of overseas art schools, including USA, England, Singapore, Russia, and Israel. The second phase is about examining the in-depth interviews from the art teachers in Yewon art school. In general, Korean arts middle schools are renowned for domestically cultivating professional art outstanding individuals, however, they are subtly alienated from both side of the education and national policy. . Particularly, there only exists one prior research about the Korean arts middle schools, and furthermore these art schools are classified as art department specialized middle schools or miscellaneous schools, there are some questions about the management. As a result, the study suggests six basic directions that can qualitatively develop arts middle schools in Korea. First, just as art specialized middle schools or gifted art middle schools did, a distinctive system for the arts middle schools should be nationally established and detailed improvements on the current system should be made. Second, the education goal of arts middle schools should become more clearer by transitioning from educating professionalisms in art to cultivating talents for creative arts. Third, the arts middle schools should aim not only to focus on the basic practical trainings, but also to expand the scope of the art education contents. Fourth, horizontal expansion of the arts middle school entrance examination should be conducted. Fifth, there needs to be resolutions for easing the heavy work burden of the arts development teachers and specifications of the education workforces. Sixth, the school environment should be improved through financial supports. Ultimately, both reconsideration of the arts middle schools in Korea and re-establishment of their values as professional arts educations are expected once a new curriculum with such core competencies such as creativity and expertise is implemented. We need to acknowledge that this study is primarily based on macroscopic data analysis of six schools and in-depth interviews of one school. Therefore, if we continuously conduct researches on this topic with more specific contents and discussions, a virtuous cycle could be reached, especially the changes in the general perceptions about the arts middle schools in Korea.
