Mathematical Modelling on Phase Trajectories of Termites Moving on Closed Curves

Abstract

In this paper we mathematically explain the trajectories of termites in the case that they are attracted to pheromone-like substance, which is, for ex- ample, a ball-point pen. We videotape and observe the movement of termites lying on a sheet of paper with a circle drawn with the ball-point pen on it. When termites are initially scattered in the center of a circle, they approach the curve interacting with others. We will suggest the mathematical model and numerical simulation on the phenomena.
