작업에 내재된 애착적 서사성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 본인의 작업에서 드러나는 애착적 서사성과 사유과정에 내재한 불연속성에 관한 추적에서 출발한다. 탐구 과정에서 본인은 무엇이든 예술이 될 수 있다.는 임계점 없는 자율성을 부여받은 현대 미술이 자본의 논리 속에서 도리어 불관용을 맞이하는 실태를 목격하며, 본인의 주된 작업 태도인 주변의 이야기를 모으는 일이 권위의 당위성에 대한 대응의 단면임을 발견하였다. 이와 동시에 작업을 진행하는 과정에서 드러나는 본인의 산발적이고 파편적인 사유방식이 만연한 디지털 시대와 맞물려왔음을 인지하였다.

디지털이 지닌 메시지 전달 방식의 특수성은 기존의 사유구조에 영향을 미치고, 문명 간 갈등 상황이 아닌 을과 을의 분쟁이 지속되는 시민전쟁이라는 시대적 특성은 작업을 대하는 마음가짐을 바꾸었다. 본인은 한 사람의 삶이 시대와 별개로 살아지는 것이 아닌 사람과 시대가 서로 스며드는 것으로 견지하며, 동시대를 살아가는 한 사람으로서 지금에 이르도록 붙잡고자 한 것이 무엇인지 서술하려 한다. 본론 서두에서는 기술적 특성을 넘어 전통적 사유 전반을 뒤흔드는 디지털 시대의 모습과 이러한 시대의 흐름을 등에 업고는 어떤 것은 예술이 될 수는 없는 상황을 자율성이라는 미명 아래 합리적으로 묵과하고 있는 예술의 권위적 측면을 짚어볼 것이다. 나아가 이와 같은 탐구로부터 드러난 총체적 시대성이 본인의 작업에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 작업물을 통해 풀어내려 한다.

작금의 시대는 필연적인 분절성 속에서 끊임없는 시민 권리 쟁탈전에 참여할 것을 부추긴다. 여기에서 본인이 할 수 있는 일은 매일의 분절된 시간 속의 조명받지 않는 구석의 서사를 붙잡는 일이다. 그렇게 붙잡은 서로 다른 구석 속의 개별자들을 등장인물로 상정하고 그들을 같은 자리에 놓아둠으로써 한편의 연극적 설치를 시도한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 개별적 가치의 연대를 모색하며, 나아가 이를 마주하는 이로 하여금 낯선 시선으로 개별자들의 가치를 재인식해 볼 수 있도록 희망한다.

본인은 작업하는 일을 통해 궁극적으로 익숙하지 않은 순간도 외면하지 않을 수 있기를 바라왔다. 언제나 본인을 둘러싼 세계 전체를 있는 그대로 낯설게 맞아들일 수 있는 상태(필자의 자리가 뻥 뚫림으로써 그 어느 순간보다 선명하게 존재하는 와 같은 상태)에 놓이길 염원한다.

This research began by tracing the "affectionate narrativity" in my works and the implicit discontinuity in my thinking process. On witnessing the fact that contemporary art, which has been granted limitless freedom that "Anything can be art," faces intolerance in the logic of capitalism, I discovered that my approach toward art, of collecting stories from my surroundings, could be a way of countering the legitimacy of authority. At the same time, I recognized that my sporadic and fragmented way of thinking revealed in the creative process is intertwined with the prevalent digital era.

The digital age's distinctive message delivery method has affected the thought structure and the characteristics of the era, which is "not a conflict between civilizations but an ongoing civil war between the citizens," and changed my approach to the creative process. I believe that a person's life cannot be separated from the era; rather, the person and the era permeate to one another. As a person living in the contemporary world, I aim to describe what I have so wanted to capture until now. In the first part of this study, this study examined the shapes of the digital era that go beyond its technical characteristics and shake the traditional way of thinking. This study further shed light on the authoritative aspect of art, which, by following the current trends and under the guise of autonomy, has reasonably condoned the current situation of "somethings not being art." Through such analysis, this study aimed to show how the overall trends of the time influenced my creative process and my works.

Within its inevitable segmentation, the present era encourages citizens to take part in the never-ending battle for rights. What I can do in this world is to capture the unwanted narratives found in the corners of the segmented time every day. The individuals discovered from each of the different corners become characters and are placed in the same place where I attempt a theatrical installation. Through this process, I seek the solidarity of individual values and hope that the viewers of my works could realize the value of the individuals with an unfamiliarized perspective.

Through my works, I hope to avoid neglecting unfamiliar moments. I sincerely hope to be in a state where I could accept the world around me as it is in an unfamiliar light (a state of where my space is emptied and therefore exists as clearly as ever).
